[TR] Broken Top - Green Lakes to Northwest Ridge 7/10/2010

you were far too nice to the hikers. But yes, serious karma points. -

I must say, as a young'n, I try as hard as possible to cruise around to other camps when camping and be sociable. Especially at the skull hollow loop; it's very conducive to drifting because you always end up back at your camp eventually! Every now and then you meet some weirdos, every now and then you meet some really cool folks young and old. Several years ago we drifted into a camp with a good campfire and several long grey beards and were able to hear stories of Smith from well before the first bolts were rap bolted. Cheers to anyone who wants to visit my camp too!

Mountain Rule number 3: in the mountains, always stake/guyline out your tent like a hurricane is coming, even if the weather is nice at the time! You just never know!

dont know, but I dont believe so. if he had I believe he would have come back to camp instead of descending to the south.

I was up with forrest, and although we turned around at the base of the summit pinnacle, I would definitely recommend 2 tools for the route right now. Here's a TR from a climbing partner last weekend for more info: http://ccsadventures.zenfolio.com/p860122445

...and why are you surprised at your bowel adventures?!?

How fast can I get back to climbing (finger tendon
111 posted a topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
I tore the middle finger A2 or something real similar near it in Feb bouldering (didn't warm up enough ...dumb) I haven't climbed since but got out this weekend to try it out. Things felt fine during 2 days climbing on some variable terrain and it wasn't tender the next day. I have taped it really tight and that seemed to help. My question is, how fast can I get back at it? Should I just let pain be a guide? How have others judged when they are ok to start pulling hard again? It feels sooo good to get back on rock!!! -
why'd ya call it the "black hawk helicopter free hanging rap?"

overcook your bacon right so it is real crisp, then use it as a spoon to eat the oatmeal.

...I found it! It was right under my nose all these years!! The large rectangular drip pan for cooking a turkey! Eureka! It fits across two burners and I can fit damn near a whole package of bacon in there at once! Oh happyday!

better get a double sleeping bag for car camping...

answered it myself From Backpackinglight.com: backpackinglight http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/thread_display.html?forum_thread_id=13180 ""That is only true if the thickness of the two pots is the same. Usually, however, Ti pots are thinner so the difference is minimised or reversed. With the extra thin walls of the Tibetan/FireLight pots your water will boil faster than in most aluminium pots." Hummm.....well....probably not. The coefficient of thermal conductivity for titanium is 21.9W/m per degree C.....and aluminum is 237W/meter per degree Centigrade. Soooo....assuming a similar surface area and temperature differential, Fourier's Law shows the aluminum pot would need to be about 11 times thicker to have the same resistance as the titanium pot.....and I suspect that "most aluminum pots" are not 11 times thicker. Could be wrong.....but I doubt it. (assume Roger will check my math! In general, I think it is safe to assume that aluminum will transmit the stove's heat to your water better.

Any idea how much better for a similar sized pot? I guess I could just run a test like Mike...

I suspect we'll be seeing several more of these on Sunday, with the forecast and all...

Arkinsaw, shasta is a good intro to the higher elevations. 14,000 ft is not to underestimated however. People do strange things when their brains are deprived of oxygen. The route up AG is not technical, just know how to self arrest. Sounds like you would be ok on it, but for a TOTAL noob, this is not the best first mountain. take your partner up something that is easier to bail off of first to make sure he/she is ok with skills and altitude.

and you've got limestone to the east and west! (near the concrete factory on hwy 20 and also tons in Hells Canyon.
