[TR] Clark Mountain- Southeast Slope 10/9/2005

Cool! Looks nice up there with the fresh snow, huh? What's with the broken spectre? -
I wonder if there is some soft dremmel head that would clean off the scratch and blend it with the rest of the rock, without doing any damage? I have seen this shit at other places too. I guess I wouldn't want to be seen with a dremmel on the rock though, lest I be though of as an instigator, not a fixer. Just out of curiosity, who does these things? I mean, it seems like everyone who posts here is clearly against it, and personally I can't really think of a single reason to actually do it... So who is doing it and why? And when are they doing it? Do they sneak in at night and climb with a headlamp, so that they can scratch their little arrows without getting caught? I never see it, but you can bet your ass I would say something if I did.

I got to get me ass up there... Any idea how long a drive it would be from Corvallis? -
Funny soundtrack. Good Flick. "Ladies and Gentleman, it's a carwash!"

Can't F*cking Decide!!!! Down or Synthetic Bag?
sweatinoutliquor replied to Tom253's topic in Newbies
Get the Bibler tripod bivy... Seems to be pretty much rad. I have a OR bivy that doesn't zip down the side, and it makes getting into and out of it a nightmare... Thankfully I haven't had to do it in a storm yet! I use a 20 degree down bag with the water resistant treatment. I find that I just don't have room in my pack for the synthetic. Especially if I am expecting the temp to be below 32 degrees... Above could mean rain, and that would have me wanting to bring my synthetic. Okay, good luck, and check the other threads... They have loads of good info. Ends up being personal preference though. -
Dudes! What an adventure! I think I'm in love with that place (and I have only been there once)! Great story about the pollen! Everything looks so amazing, and just seems so inaccessable. Great job getting out there (as usual)!

What's your patent hjennings? I was contemplating buying something from them, but now you guys got me all wondering... What's the deal here? Sure I agree with freeclimb, everyone is making knockoffs of someones brilliant design... And if they are making improvements on it then for sure I am all for it. Competition on the market forces people to come up with better products, but patent infringement does seem sort of unethical. So, more details please, I want to be an informed shopper. -
Dude! Thanks for posting those! Looks like things are starting to shape up! How was the ice cragging?

I don't know if I could figure out how to post such a nice picture if I was drunk... I think he is really is mad. Now post some pictures of chipped holds, or bolt on plastic holds! Then more guns! I had my first experience with poached hangers at the tope of a route this weekend! Awesome job assholes! Nothing like topping out a route to a couple of naked bolts, wondering how you are going to get down!

8.5mm dry, dynamic half-rope good for top-roping?
sweatinoutliquor replied to plark42's topic in Newbies
I think that 9.7 is a pretty good compromise for you here... Toproping seems to put the rope through a lot of work, and I agree with Chriznitch's comments. Just using your 8.5 as a 30 meter rope would work, but that doesn't get you up to the top of much. I think there are a few 9.2 mm ropes out there that are okay as single ropes, but I feel like that is similar enough to your 8.5 that you may want to go slightly larger than that. Also, depending on your belay device or system, it may be harder to get the friction you are looking for with a skinny rope, and it could make holding toprope falls harder on the belayer as well. -
Thank you for sharing this Ryan. It seems like climbing often brings about the most extreme of human emotions... Sometimes it brings sheer joy, and other times pure sadness. I'm sure Mike will be remembered for the great person he must have been, and hopefully everyone can learn a bit from your personal account of the story. Rest in Peace Mike.

[TR] Castle Crags- Hubris n' Stuff 9/27/2005
sweatinoutliquor replied to layton's topic in California
Nice Christo... I agree, that route looks like it's sustained and difficult, and the position is so cool! Way to get up there and climb it, and thanks for your first post being a response to my question! I wish that place was closer! So cool! -
I'm hoping that there is a button on this keyboard I can push on that does that for me.

I was just instructed that I needed to perform a repeated measures analysis of variance using a split plot model to compare the means of my randomized complete block design experiment. I don't know what any of that means, and I think people are playing a bad joke on me using words like that. I hope my parents aren't ashamed of me for been so clueless.

They both fit pretty frequently it seems like!

Just half drunk? That place get's all silly... You know you're in trouble when the bartender starts giving you plastic, non-breakable, cups.

I haven't been to PRG yet, but I suppose I should go... The climbing gym here at OSU is quite awesome actually, (when there isn't a 2 hour waitlist to get in) but I hear that PRG is pretty sweet too... I am guessing that they use static there? Thanks again folks. ~SOL

Good prediction! Actually it was $2 pints at downtown american dream where the "argument" took place, but I was still upset and thinking about it for $2 pints at bombs (which happened later). That prediction is worth 12 points.
