It depends on how much you'll be travelling to the northwest. There are plenty of places around that will rent you AT gear. If you're lugging stuff from home, some airlines will charge you to check your skis, you risk damage, etc. If it's only a couple of times a year, it's probably more worthwhile to rent gear.

About half the show was his solo stuff. I also got 2 free CDs of his new CDs in the mail for some reason (just 2 identical CDs, no note or anything), you can have it if you want.

That concert was so good, I'd pay double what I did to see him again. I took my parents instead of selling the tickets and they had a blast (most of the audience was their age anyways). If you care, he played about 1/2 of his songs from Dire Straits: Money for Nothing, Brothers in Arms, So Far Away, Sultans of Swing, Rome & Juliet, Telegraph Road.

I heard about this guy. When searchers saw his campsite from the hellicopter, apparently they saw a bear sitting on top of a corpse, eating away at it. Apparently this guy was into trying to approach grizzlies as closely as possible, for "research." Watch Project Grizzly for something much funnier - this guy wants to fight a grizzly bear and is making an armored suit to let him.

That's funny, I always thought the biggest downside was all the people dying.

Horsetail Falls has the trail behind it in the gorge. If you want to drive a bit farther, you should go to Silver Falls State Park. Do the basic trail of 10 falls, at least a few of those have trails behind them. Easy 6-8 mile hike in a loop. If you wait until fall and go on a rainy day, you'll see about 6 other people there total.
