  1. you do look kind of sullen there; did the other adolescent supervillians pick on you?
  2. that seems about as useful as a portuguese pocket dictionary, but what the heck, might as well throw it in there with the other 85 essentials.
  3. HOTH = the ice planet, a handy place to get a new or used Tauntaun, which won't help you rope-solo, but can carry your pitons.
  4. if those red tags are still there in 6 months and dru still hasn't sent, is it an open project?
  5. Hey, I remember wearin straight leg levis, flannel shirts, even when they weren't in style.
  6. the tiredest phrase is the one having the most postings...I must have nothing to say except that the coolest music I heard all year long was the 1976 Neville brothers album Wild Tchoupitoulas and I think some of you kids are making up these band names
  7. I'm with sweatinoutliquor and rbw on this one; not a great weekend to go for the summit unless you're on a rescue team. folks have wondered how they can help out - it seems like not getting in the way would be a pretty good start.
  8. hey mrmack, I'm guessing you don't like my boy Ivan too much, but I'm sure he regrets what he said, so why don't you just leave that alone, OK? and to John - not so tasteful dredging that stuff up, I think.
  9. maybe to point out to the uninitiated that climbing a NF Hood route in winter is actually safer than climbing it in summer? generally speaking, of course. seems like most non-climbers find this counter-intuitive.
  10. like someone else said, get a copy of "Freedom of the Hills" and read it before you set out to really climb something. Even if you're not interested in the "technical" part of climbing, it'll give you a good background in wilderness navigation, what kind of clothes to wear, how to use crampons & axe, and so forth. you can rent crampons & axe at REI and lots of other places and I'd recommend doing that if you're not sure you want to get into climbing big-time.
  11. yeah, Bill, thanks for that story. good reality-check.
  12. some speeling errors are funnier than others ???
  13. I try to stay off the fececious routes
  14. glad to hear that these guys seemed like competent climbers; that gives me hope that they'll make it all right. best wishes to the climbers and the rescuers involved.
  15. Ivan, are you lofgeornost?
  16. the one time my partner & I had a stick clip along at smith, I noticed that it made me an even more timid climber than usual. I found myself wanting to clip the first bolt on everything. while I don't blame folks for using them, I think that it doesn't get me in the right mental state for leading.
  17. if you like eruption, you might like this guy... eddie van halen's debt to js bach is rarely acknowledged
  18. I disagree with everyone who said anything other than Hendrix. offwhite is right on: Seriously, if you've never been to electic ladyland, you should go sometime and Eddie van Halen isn't even in the same league as Hendrix, though Van Halen I and 1984 do rock, I'll give you that, kevbro
  19. no you won't you hit the all-caps key?
  20. whatever gun you end up buying, try not to let this happen to you...
  21.
