  1. yeah, Bill...I thought it was a pretty dumb joke too. Not that I'll be ever climbing the east face of the monkey, but that kind of thing does seem out of place in a guidebook.
  2. You know, some people got no choice And they can’t never find a voice To talk with that they can even call their own So the first thing that they see That allows them the right to be Why they follow it, you know, it’s called bad luck. I don't have it anymore, sorry. Just wanted to quote my favorite lines...
  3. we'll all go together when we go every hottentot and every eskimo
  4. I listened to most of the first hour of the guy's talk and thought it was rambling and boring...maybe there was an interesting idea or two in there but all the neo-hippie sensitive guy nonsense and random tangents exhausted my patience...
  5. No, this was a date hike. No shorts over polypro... If anyone else is curious, the "catwalk" is dry, though there was snow on Benson Plateau, so there's a little routefinding involved if you want to return via the Ruckel Creek trail.
  6. yeah, that's what I was thinking about...the catwalk wouldn't be fun if it's wet.
  7. anyone hike up ruckel ridge lately? is there snow up there on benson plateau?
  8. What's the deal at those places? Is there a precedent for this level of official oversight?
  9. I'm not sure I understand this "approval of overall lines after a review" deal. Does Beacon Rock State Park actually want to get involved on this level, even providing the fixed pro? Seems like they would want to stay away from this just given the liability issues. And from the climbers' perspective...doesn't the idea of a line being approved or rejected by a governmental outfit just seem totally antithetical to the spirit of doing an adventurous or bold first ascent? Or am I misunderstanding this proposed "protocol"?
  10. I did some research and I believe you're right...ok, who's up for some climbing this evening, on wednesday, the 19th of April?
  11. Anyone else planning on climbing at the butte tonight (thursday, 4-19)?
  12. probably the coolest place I've ever been. anyone climbed any of the other formations around the finger? like the arrowhead, the coffin, etc?
  13. brilliant, why didn't I think of that. thanks!
  14. link didn't work for me what's up with all these formerly anonymous posters using their real names? is this the future?
  15. are your ducks in a row? we're on the same page, right?
  16. CBS, that's way too highbrow a joke for a mullet & NASCAR climbing board like this one...
  17. "remove all trace of your presence after climbing in the area" cool looking rock, though.
  18. Well Dod Damn. As soon as I'm done with my mayonnaise sandwich and Busch beer I'm coming over to kick your ass. Well, I got to go get my mullet trimmed and then NASCAR is on ... but after that, I'm going to fuck you up.
  19. But does your garage have poison oak, discarded TV sets, and the occasional used-condom-surprise? I didn't think so.
  20. Nice Rocky Butte bouldering stoke pic! I can't make it this week, but maybe next week? Looking forward to climbing up there again with you all.
