Alpiners Anonymous: PDX dry tool night
John Frieh replied to John Frieh's topic in Climbing Partners
So far I have 6 showing up! w000000t! We will be climbing c. 150’ climbers left of the silver bullet wall. If you don’t know where this is just follow these instructions: After 3 speedbumps the road bends right and passes a big tan dome building. Park past the big tan dome building (look for a silver pickup). I plan to hang out at my truck for a little bit so look for me. If you get there much later than 4 just follow these directions: Cross the road into the woods and walk c. 100’. You should immediately pass a tunnel on your right that goes underneath the road (good warm up area is you are early). Walk c. 100’ along the top of the cliff looking for some TR anchors/listening for the sounds of shitty footwork with crampons on (screech!) If this fails just call me on my cell: 541-231-2062. If I don't answer it is because I am climbing! And if you can't make it till 5 no worries... we should be there for awhile! -
poll Looks like a tie to me. I vote 15/16.

Drytool tonight (9.28) 4 pm - pump. Park at far end of crag (near the tunnel that goes under the road); look for my silver . If you need to borrow any gear let me know in advance. You need: -harness w/ belay device, daisy chain -helmet -boots -crampons -ice tools -headlamp? I might only be belaying as my hands are currently swollen to quasimodo proportions thanks in part to a double exposure to poison oak last week and a wasp run in today. Speaking of there is a wasp nest in the bushes right above Tiger Paws... or at least for the next 24 - 48 hours. All you bitches gonna die! Hope to see some new faces out at DT night both this week and this winter. -
Sorry for the belated response... I just saw this. Yes progress has been made but not on crown... more in the gorge. Come out to dt night at rocky and we can shoot the shit

Anybody for Tuesday? Rock, dry tool whatever. I could make beacon too maybe... Holla 541-231-2062 Maybe... though the warm weather during the day does impact what has formed it is the over night temps and freezing level that dictate what is forming. As it has been fairly cold the past week there is a good chance stuff might be coming in. In the end someone needs to hike up there. I might tomorrow if no one can go crag. -

Anybody want to crag this week? Rock, drytool, whatever... -
In general how much have people found they can file off a pick (from keeping them sharp) before the pick becomes too short and unusable? 1 cm? 2 cm? More? Brand specific? Also: do/have people filed off the first (or second?) tooth of the pick as the pick becomes shorter and shorter over time from repetive filing? What about vertical crampon front points? Any pics and commentary would be great!

Those guys take like 2 months to just process your order. How much for a pair of aztar's (with a bunch of extra picks)?
-
I'm in unless Rudy plans on wearing one of his wrestling singlets and headgear... And you thought sport climbers who wear spandex looked gay

So nasty that it's probably somewhat of a travesty Having me daily total people You can call me Your Majesty Keep your battery charged You know it won't stick, yo And it's not his fault you kick slow Should've let your trick 'ho chick hold your sick glow Plus nobody couldn't do nothin' once he let the brick go And you know I know that's a bunch of snow The beat is so butter Peep the slow cutter As he utters the calm flow Don't talk about my moms, yo Sometimes he rhyme quick, sometimes he rhyme slow And vice versa Whip up a slice of nice verse pie Hit it on the first try Villain: The Worst Guy Spot hot tracks like spot a pair of fat asses Shots of the scotch from out of square shot glasses And he won't stop 'till he got the masses An' show 'em what they know now through flows of hot molasses Do it like a robot to headspin to boogaloo Took a few minutes to convince the average bug-a-boo It's ugly, like look at you! It's a damn shame Just remember All Caps when you spell the man name And you know it like a poet, like baby doll I bet she tried to say she gave me her all, she played ball All bets off! The Villain got the dice rigged And they say he accosted the man with the sliced wig Allegedly; the investigation is still ongoing In this pesky inition he gots the best con flowin' The pot doubles, now they really got troubles Madman never go *pop*!, like snot bubbles

I thought you said you just pull on the draws on the aid pitch and don't bother with aiders!?!?!?!

Someone needs to post a poll. Or just call it.

Least I didn't get off route and went climbing which is more than some people I know can say

Smith: Dried mud with bolts in it... you'll either love it (sport) or hate it (multi pitch trad). Depends on your climbing interests... Bend: Retirement town for CA retirees that lacks urban growth boundaries (good for construction I would guess ) and a mass transit system (of any kind ). For what it's worth remodeling in PDX is booming (and will continue to) as long as the houseing market continues to climb out of control.
