i drove through the gorge yesterday. It sucked. but there IS ice forming. lots of it...but the key word is forming. there are some potential mixed climbs in the park just west of Ainsworth St. Pk. i remember some more climbs pretty far east too, those were better formed. i'd post photos, but my digi cam cable is 2 states away. oh yea, the falls that spills from Crown Point was outlined and starting to fill in. i did not see any ice that was blue though. maybe if it stays cold for the next few days.

dear santa, All i wanted for christmas was some lift served freshiez. but after waiting for a few hours for you to arrive, i decided that maybe Santa doesn't exist. So i did what any reasonable, but depressed, person would do. I headed to Tumalo and hit 10" of fresh pow pow. i got to test out my christmas gift to myself--a new AT setup. It was my first day on skis in 6 years, so i fell a lot, but it anyways. too bad you missed it...

i'm guessing you have, but have you used ellipticals before? whenever i use one my lower back just kills me. they also kill my hamstrings. maybe it's just me, but i prefer being outdoors. it's cheaper too.

i'm down with dishin out (or takin) face shotz too. i'll be there dressed like a skier, but on a snowboard. timmy, did you get me what we talked about at Pub Club? PM me if you must.

i think they're pretty close to right about the steepness. we did the variation that they talk about and it was about 50 degrees. the glacier is only about 35-40 above the schrund. i'd suggest going early in the season, cuz there were discontinuous patches of snow below the glacier. skiing to Green Lakes would have sucked. i'd go just after the road opens...

the blue lines would go no problem, they could be skied all the way into june. the red lines are pretty damn steep...meaning i think you'd probably die doing them. i think that they're 5th class on broken rock... anyways, here are some pics from the blue lines (prouty glacier). my partner looks like an idiot, oh well. it's steeper than it looks.

i drove in the 1514 RD today (squaw creek area) up to about 5300' and it was passable in a higher clearance vehicle. a suby could do it before the snow softens up in the afternoons. take chains and a shovel though, we got stuck once we got off the packed down area. pics of the sistaz to come...

i skied into the Sisters today looking for some ice. lots of running water below 5500'. there was ice forming along some of the falls though. Hopefully this incoming cold spell will help conditions. anyone want to go to the Strawberries tuesday-wednesday?

how about Grivel Machines? $300 takes a hammer/adze pair with a pair of new Mixte picks, one new cascade pick, and a pair of shitty old cascade picks. the tools are in good shape (no cracks, etc.) but could probably use some paint. interested?

so if you weigh less than 55kg (121 lbs), can you use a half rope as a single rope all the time? Not that I would (or fit that criteria), but it seems like it could be safe...

Not from any personal experience, but Middle Sister. you can do either side, but the east side is more commonly done. i'm sure someone here has done it. Hood is always mellow. McGloughlin if you're down south? Bachy...

but do your mountaineering boots fit in them? mine are under the 37mm spec for click-in compatability.

has anyone used these with mountaineering boots? it looks like one could pull off the plastic on the toe bail and it'd be like step in 500s?
