why don't you give Chris Sabo a call at the FS in Bend? he seems to be the "man" of sorts in the newspaper. I think thta he's the Recreation Guy there; he might have an answer for you...it might not be a good one though.

i'm glad to see that someone isn't just going to climb B-choss in a day from the trailhead. to you. if you're going to camp at Golden, watch out for the "green lakes" skeeters...they're huge this year. they should be dying down a little by now though as compared to when i was there 2 weeks ago. those bastards pack a punch. head up the drainage up towards the ponds (the last water) that are south of Golden Lake, following a stream. from there you can gain the NW ridge by shooting for the obvious saddle, up the choss, and follow the climbers' trail to the summit. i didn't find any need to take a helmet when i went, but rockfall could possibly be an issue when you're getting on the ridge if you're partner is clumsy... are you heading up friday?

Erik, fyi, i just spent nearly 6 hardass weeks clearing trails in the Sisters and it's not volunteer activity. i could only wish to be so lucky as to not do that godforsaken work. it totally sucks. before you go spouting off about this and that, get some more info. oh yea, don't confuse the Wilderness Rangers with the Field Rangers who give you parking tickets. there is a huge difference. oh, and don't complain to the W. rangers about tickets either because we (generally) don't like, nor did the FS initiate, the fee demo policy...but you'd better talk to congress about that stuff. it was basically a ploy by some national RV organization or something that they passed up to congress. if it wasn't for that $ though, you'd see no cleared trails at all. or at least that's the way funding is going throughout the northwest. imagine schwacking on every approach...

as Gaper said, we spent the day at Smiff. lots of flailing, sweating and cursing, but still totally plab. GT, that last route was .11a... i think i deserve a few beers when i finish that one.

that's kind of why i was askin... i might just get a pair of Prophets, sell my Light Machines and hookup with some new bent shafts . probably some BDs because i could change picks that way. hmmm, time to do some actual thinking.

anyone want to go to Smiff right now? My partner bailed and i want someone to go hit up some moderate routes (up to 5.9 sport or i'll follow anything on trad). call 208.301.4181... or 548-4782 i'm available all afternoon...

It's a little early to be hoping about a good ice season, but...i'm still considering getting a new set of tools. I have the Grivel Light Machines now and like the small diameter of the shafts, but would like something with a straight shaft for added versatility. any suggestions? anybody used the BD Prophets and have an opinion? thanks.

I have a pair of Salomon Super Mtn 9's. i love the things. they seem to do just fine on any terrain you can throw at 'em. you mentioned that you have flat feet and overpronate and i do to. these seem to combat all of that well. i especially like the inner lacing system on the tongue for that custom fit...and they've never given my any blisters even on the long death marches and cascade slogs, even when they were new. that's my $.01 -
you're in the clear from the Man in Oregon for at least the remainder of this year. after that, he is going to start collecting on fines...so watch out. i had something reported to a collection agency one time which i had already paid, boy did that suck to get cleared up. i've heard that up in WA they aren't quite as lenient.

you forgot the Husband, the Wife, Broken Hand, Ball Butte, and Tumalo mountain... you wouldn't even need a bike that way. if you're going to the wallowas anytime soon, give me a PM about your plans, i might be interested. -
What to climb in the Blue Mountains?
kurthicks replied to klenke's topic in Central/Eastern Washington
I've done She Devil before too. take the climbers trail from the camp ground to Sheep Lake, which is about 4 miles if i remember correctly. it's kind of hard to find, but it starts from the far end of the campground (south) loop in the back of a campsite. it's the first campsite past the bathroom, if i rememeber correctly. it goes up a long series of switchbacks and follows a ridge directly towards the mountains. She Devil is an easy scramble from Sheep Lake, although I did encounter some snow when i was there in October. it's probably easiest to go from He devil and traverse over to She devil and the Tower of Babel from the looks of it... nolanr: i think you're thinking of the devils tooth that is north of Sheep lake, near the outlet... -
jlag, sorry, but some other stuff has come up that i have to attend to this afternoon. i think that i'll be out there tomorrow night though, sometime after 6 if you're interested. probably just North Point or Student wall. i need to get some more crack climbs in...
