    Obamas speach

good article - glad i read it - he used it negatively, but i agree that the obama-lama's course is "pragmatic" - it might be morally bereft, as he says, but it will ultimately at least get us the hell out of there - i would have been happier w/ a complete exit, but i doubt his west point audience would have been so polite about it also, politics being what they are, obama can't appear to be a total pussy, and that's what you get called when you back down w/o any fight. i hope this works - if it doens't, i hope as few people die as possible, and that in fact no more afghan chickens come home to roost.

if iraq goes up in flames in 2011 it will probably be an indicator of how leaving afghan the next year will go that said, iraq appears to maybe not be the total shithole it was just a couple years ago, so maybe the lesson is ya never know? i'm hopeful for this plan, it could work, and i like that regardless we'll be getting the hell out of there in time to hold The Man in charge for it come re-election time. and i agree w/ you bill - it's not the same afghanistan as in the 80s

    Obamas speach

seems like the classic compromise liberals/dems want complete withdrawal or at best no change conservatives/repubs want total commitment forever slight increase (which still almost doubles the previous force) and for a short time period just about splits the uprights? with the timeline he's announced, he's pretty much staked his presidency on the issue - it's not like he'll be able to weasal out of the deadline or the outcome in 2012, right?
  7. You should take a look at Easterbrook's Mount Baker studies. But yes, I would miss our local glaciers terribly--not that this is relevant at all. As for soot/darkening vs CO2: The solutions are quite a bit different. Are you the least bit concerned that a scientist who feeds his data directly to the IPCC is admitting that there is a problem with the data--and has been trying to hide it? Ivan claimed he wanted a "conversation", but has yet to respond in-kind. At this point, I'll settle for an answer to the question in my last sentence. i'm not certain i asked for that - i always figured taking any "conversation" here seriously tantamount to end-stage insanity, a precept no small # of you dimwits would do well to adopt anyhow, as to your question about my concern on some scientists letting down the side and fudging their data, i thought i'd answered that w/ my snide piltdown observation earlier - it's hardly a new thing for pointy-headed geek fucks to do something like that - i haven't read the articles on this latest example, but i doubt it impugnes every sceintist ever - the whole science thing is based on multiple testings of an idea, no? it seems hardly a days goes by that another organization or science group releases a new study revealing the depth of the problem - i don't think they're all in league w/ each other - that some may have done so, especially in an environment where the slightest degree of uncertainity is translated as proof of the unviability of a theory, doesn't suprise me in the least - of course i wouldn't support it, but i could understand it - the piltdown example is a fine one - sure, those dimwits were lying, but that didn't mean evolution was a bogus theory, right? good?

    NEWS

i write a current evetn quiz for my class everyweek - i scan the headlines and generally write a question for any story that appears in 4 of the following news websites: msnbc, abc, cbs, fox, cnn, and google. as a classic libtard, i must listen to npr in the car and for some reason, every gym i've been part of has fox news on in front of the treadmills, so i get my motivation to get done and get the fuck out
  13. Hi Kenny. Took me 2 hours to read all this shit but I just discovered we got a beacon/bacon forum. SCORE! Who is that Pete H dumbfucker who keeps chiming in? His other avatar is Dirty Harry. and he's a plenty cool guy - he just likes to Hate On the Fabled Beacon-Wand
  14. too crass and simple - much of the solution has to come from outside ourselves as individuals - i can't invent a more fuel efficient car, but i can buy one - i can't convert the country to accomodate electric cars, but i can buy one - the solution requires governments, corporations and consumers all to play a part, no?
  15. this totally sounds like a job for the super friends
  16. Ivan. You gonna ask me this again in a couple months? Where's the quid pro quo from cc.com's only libnontard? i might very well ask again out of genuine confusion - so, if i translate your passage proper, you ascribe to the notion that the earth is warming, that mankind might be part of the problem, but that largely its a natural phenomena that shouldn't concern us? you gonna miss the glaciers? so long as there's enough ice to put in my gin n' tonics i reckon i'll be alright, especially since i'll need the tonic to fight off the malaria spreading into the pnw
  17. Actually, I did. You quit after that. i'm a poor sprayer then or maybe it was just drowned in an ocean of bullshit? so what was it?
  18. evolution is bullshit too b/c of those dumbass piltdown folks, right? ya never answered the question in the other thread on this chestnut, fw - which is it? a) the earth is not getting warmer b) the earth is getting warmer, it just isn't the fault of man you obviously don't go w/ c) the earth is warmer, and mankind has been a significant agent in that process your answer is a pretty essential starting point for the conversation, no?
