  1. Soft shells will be fine up to 14k. Above that you will want some kind of insulation with wind shell. I think down pants are probably overkill if you go after mid-May, but a pair of primaloft pants with nylon shell would be great. Something like the integral designs denali pants. Goretex is not necessary and is heavy/expensive. I wore something similar to the integral desgins St. Elias suit under a down parka and was quite comfortable.
  2. JayB and I will be there. Can you provide some directions to "Viking Union"? Any other Seattlites that wish to come along, we are planning to meet at the north side of the 65th street park&ride (under I-5) at 5pm. Look for the faded sheep fucker grafitti on the back of a green subaru station wagon.
  3. Oh, I guess mine is broken. I'll have to find a skilled laborer and pay them an appropriate wage and have mine serviced.
  4. This is bullshit.
  5. This is a great parable except that our society doesn't function like a school. In school, everyone has an equal opportunity to get a certain grade. Every one has to work equally hard and be equally smart to get a 3.0 for example. Of course, some folks have to work while going to school, which makes it more difficult, but overall, school is a more equitable environment than the business world where a senior VP can work a six hour day, most of that time spent surfing the net, chatting with other VPs, or even having a "business meeting" on the golf course. For this he gets $600,000/year + bonuses. Meanwhile, the single mother who cleans the VP's office gets $20,000/year for a 40 hour week. No bonuses of course. This is the inherent inequity and unfairness in the capitalistic system that the democratic idea of wealth redistribution through asymmetrical taxation seeks to remedy. In short, because capitalism is unfair, we have to impose "unfair" taxation to balance things out a bit.
  6. And oranges are much better than apples!
  7. AlpineDave and I climbed at lower town wall on Saturday. It was sunny and warm. This chimney (Dave leading) kicked my ass:
  8. Index on Saturday was warm, sunny, and BEAUTIFUL! AlpineDave and I climbed on the lower town wall and ran into some old guy who's done a lot of climbing in the Cascades. Attached is a pic of NF of Mt. Index.
  9. YO! Any Seattlites interested in carpooling up to the B-ham should send me a pm. I ain't drivin' up unless I get a couple people together. If any of you are free during the day on Tuesday, maybe we could go to Mt. Erie and then hit the slide show (weather permitting of course). I've never been there. JayB?
  10. Choss on the menu? Vantage will stupend you Punk rock haiku; so fuck you.
  11. Climbing at Vantage Leaves much to be desired? -Sun, rock, smile you climber
  12. Looks like an elephant condom to me.
  13. Another option is to buy an external hard drive. I have one and use if for backing up my music/photo files. Holds 20gigs and I paid about $70 for it on Ebay. Connects via USB, which your "old" computer might not have. They make external HDs with other connectivity. I take my external HD over to friends houses sometimes and swipe their MP3 collections. Cheers
  14. I own and use a golite Den tarp quite frequently for summer/below treeline camping, but for camping on snow/cold/questionable weather/alpine stuff, I prefer a tent. At 1.5lbs/person, I think this tent would be lighter than most tarp/bivy combos. Plus, it's a lot easier to spoon your partner or in a tent, eh!? For you Dru:
  15. Hey Ananda, Welcome to cc.com and thanks for your review. So you didn't have any moisture coming through the walls where a sleeping bag/pack/whatever was touching it? And no water through the floor when camped on snow overnight? If so, I'm impressed and wonder if the silnylon floor is perhaps DWR coated and might loose some of its waterproofness over time? Your revised weight is AFTER seam-sealing, yes? Namaste
  16. You'll never get your Mountaineer's knot-tying merit badge with that sloppily-tied eight there cracker. p.s. Is that your dorm room or something? Where is the bong dude!!?!?!
  17. I dunno. Before I buy anything as important/specific as boots online, I got to REI and figure out exactly what size I want. Heck of a deal for the princess-sized foot folks.
  18. Umbrellas are also not pressed against wet surfaces (ground/snow) all night and expected to keep water out. I'll be really curious to hear reports about these tents. The weight is incredible, but I anticipate durability and permeability issues with the tent floor (SILNYLON!!!). I think the EPIC will work well for tent walls since they are under some tension (umbrella principle) but what about where your sleeping bag touches the wall? Waiting expectantly for real-PNW-reviews.
  19. Thread #1 Thread #B
  20. The "problem" is over-rated. Your stove will most likely work fine unless its really ball-shrivelingly cold out, which it isn't in WA very often. Use the MSR Iso-pro fuel; it works better than the others.
  21. Yeah, Vantage sucks. I'll take Rocky Butt and all it's used condoms, beer cans, broken glass, Bible thumpers, bolt choppers, and teenage manlovers over that scenic desert shit any day. p.s. I didn't not send you a pm. p.p.s. I just noticed the hairy armpits in that pic. Nice!
  22. Yes, I am too good for Pugets forum. Actually I checked the "Gear Critic" forum and didn't see a thread there, so I didn't know there was one. Oh well. In case you care what NON-ALPINFOXES have to say about this cam design.
  23. well whadyaknow! If you search for "Dru spraylord" you get one return....
  24. I just came across this picture that RuMR uploaded. I wanted to talk about it: My guess is that these would be a bit heavier than normal cams, but the large expansion range is interesting. I see these as being good for a small alpine rack when you want to just carry 2 or 3 cams. The wires look kind of exposed and prone to getting kinked/caught/broken. The stem should have an eye big enough to clip a carabiner (aid climbing). Also, where the hell is the built in beer opener!?!?! They should pay me for my comentary! Thank you for allow mutant chiuahua to post on human website.
