    Hint: This approach is creepy.
  8. how did you jokers do?
  9. Bogen's link says I need to lose 40lbs. Anyone know Hugh Herr's surgeon? City Park here I come!
  10. army cadets get shelters with zippers and grommets and shiz? softies! in air cadets we had to build shelters out of parachutes . My 'thermarest' is canadian forces issue - it's got built-in compression straps and a valve that you can hook a bicycle pump to, semi-useful gizmos that the 'civilian' issue mats don't have. I found it though, never seen them for sale anywhere.
  11. first trip to Yosemite I ended up with a rope, 2 cams, jacket, book, biner, rivet hanger. Second trip I left behind 2 cams, long sling and some biners, 3rd trip I gained 4 biners, 2 slings, 2 nuts. One spring day in Squamish with Ken4d I found 3 slings w/ 4 biners, 2 quickdraws, and a swiss army knife. found a whole equalized anchor setup with 2 nuts and a #0 tech friend, biners and techcord at the base of Snow Creek Wall. Strangely found exactly the same size of cam on Castle Rock a different day. I was very excited to find a BD nut tool this year to replace the one I dropped off Mt. Gimli. NOw I need to find a purple jr cramalot to replace the one I dropped off Springbok
  12. first climbing book I ever read was Banner In the Sky (James Ramsey Ullman) in grade 4. It may not be my favourite but this picture from the movie is funny
  13. even 'insulated' boots like the Nepal Extremes are not always well insulated in the soles, especially if you use the stock footbed. If there's room inside put in a thick warmer footbed or cut a piece of 5mm foam to fit in. If you are wearing them with crampons you can sometimes tape up the crampons with some foam to insulate the bootsole from the metal which will just conduct heat away. If you don't absolutely need to be wearing your crampons (around camp etc.) take them off. Supergaiters make feet toasty too and look way old skool!
  14. carolyn gives good advice. I would add one point which is: Relax and don't overgrip your tools. You can't make the pick stick in the ice any better by squeezing the handles harder.
  15. what's my prize? a copy of the new guide? ... or just the knowledge that I am snarter than dru and lyle

  17. looks like daler took a plastic BD ice-clipper fake biner and hacked and taped it caveman style though. Probably cheaper than a Grivel widget.
  18. I recall a similar will gadd(?) story except in his case he was wearing over-sized boots, so not only did the axes remain in place post-plummet, but the crampons with boots attached did too.
  19. whose consensus is this? I have been playing with my new clipper leash quarks and I find that with gloves on the clippers are awkward to detach and impossible to reattach with out employing other body parts than the hand in question(eg teeth or stabilizing against my body to be able to re-grab the clip). The webbing is too stiff and too long from the wristloop to the clip. Also you have to actually push the orange button to get the clip back on the post, with the androids you can just push the clip on the post and it selfengages. I have other design complaints too.
  20. and pickle juice right scott?
