this is a great video and the dialogue is funny, like the frenchmen who made his first hex anchor.

ask this question at grav sports forums and you will get tons of opinions on fruit boots. Tons of strong ice climbers there. My opinion, but fruit boots for ice climbing is not good due to the inconvenience of changing out boots after the approach alone. I think the lack of ankle support is another issue. But I have never worn them so my opinion isn't worth crap. hope that helps even though it doesn't really.

have you tried to cut out some padding in the overboot where the lever would dig in? (the pointy bottom part of the crampon lever) If the offending part of the overboot is where the top part of the lever snaps forward, then you may need new overboots. But you may have the same issues. I would try the longer strap option first. Give the NA distributor a call quick.

[TR] Frisco Mountain - Lyall Glacier 5/29/2011
genepires replied to JasonG's topic in North Cascades
1st and 8th photo looks like it came out of a rei catalog, except that it is not in hawaii and you guys actually climb. -
slide a short piece of tubular webbing over the bottom strap to keep from cutting it up.

the real problem lies in only half of the fat people. Nobody cares about fat dudes. but nearly every man hates to see fat chicks. fat chicks reduce the population of things we care about, hot chicks. Actually, more fat dudes means more hot chicks for fit dudes. More fat men and less fat women would be my platform for health reform.

just got another letter from rei regarding the case. maybe a form letter, maybe not but they claim that they reimbursed Monica some. In my reply I asked why it was taken to a higher court as they act like it was for valid reasons. I suspect that it was for avoidance of responsibility. I hope they lose. Dear Mr. Pires, There is more to this situation than meets the eye. Although we understand we cannot tell everyone exactly what they would like to hear right now, I’d like to finish our email exchange with a couple of points. REI has a long, respected history of standing behind our products and we will do so in this situation, too. What you and others may not realize is that early on in the case, to demonstrate our good faith, we helped Monika offset some of her expenses. I can appreciate that Monika’s friends – of which there are many at REI – feel strongly about this situation. That said, this case involves important issues of Washington law that deserve the attention of the Washington Supreme Court, which is the reason REI asked the court to consider the case. We trust that when this case is resolved, people will see that we have acted responsibly and in a manner consistent with REI’s enduring values. We wish you continued adventures and hope we can continue to serve you. Libby Catalinich Director, Corporate Communications REI - Recreational Equipment, Inc.

it's all about the character of the dog and picking up the poop. City is a mellow place where dogs are welcomed.

sad. amazing that they had energy after denali to try making a new route before taking the plane out.

tvash's iphone had a near fatal accident. Spray is not on her recovery treatment.

unfortunately you are going to have to try on several models to find the one that fits your frame. I would suggest hitting up feathered friends, marmot and pro mtn sports for the most relevant variety. Make sure you are talking to someone who knows something about fitting a pack. (not that I ever did what I suggested) For what you are asking for, I like my MEC pack but it is old and no longer made. Many people like the the cilo gear packs but I do not own any. If and when my packs die, I would go looking there for fit.

go cheap today....have to pay up in the future. Just get the right pack today and not have to buy it later.

it is fun to follow huge herds on glaciers. Some of the best bootpacks they make.

looks like a nice place to live.

it is the tooth so why get all bent out of shape? I say, let the clubs have their place to take the masses. They clog up the route a fixed number of days so if you really wan to climb the tooth, work around those days or before they show up. the other option of making them split up into smaller groups (1) and more locations (2) will (1)- make it so there are more days with slow groups on the tooth. What is the difference between a group of 6 or 12? not much as either way you are stuck at the bottom. (2)- makes every other climb crowded Large climbing clubs are a established entity. complaining about it or work around it. I like the don't worry be happy approach. At least the clubs are predictable.

how come everyone is still here. Why didn't the Christians go to heaven?

but for instructional purposes, traveling in 2 to 4 is not reasonable. If they stayed in groups of four, they would need 2 instructors for 2 students. Good luck finding enough volunteers (who actually know something) to teach that many students. You are right though about the dangers of decision making and complacency in large groups. Maybe that is something that is best learned in the real life climbing situations between instruction and "graduation".

I like my alum grivel poons. I don't know which of the Alum poons are better but getting all strap is the best option. Having the ability to put poons on LW hikers is a good idea. It has antibots built in but I would not buy antibots otherwise. Just take them off if it gets too sloppy.

I thought non profits did not need permits other than the permits needed by all individuals. (park pass, rainier climbing fee, camping fees, ect) am I wrong?

if rei had paid what they should have up front, then there would have been no need to involve the lawyers. This is pure conjecture on my part and i am not fully informed on the amount that she was asking for. But from what ryan was saying it seems like she was asking for -refund for bike ($300?) -$10K for testing on bike done as asked by rei to do so. -medical expenses (throw out a number $10K) -lost wages ($1000?) -lost vacation time ($1000?) all together and bump up and that comes to $30K with no lawyers involved. While a lot to me, this is trivial amounts for rei and they may very well lose that in sales if this were to be more in the public eye. I would be confident to say that rei has lost close to $15K just from the bad publicity here and at TAY alone.

if the backup is leavenworth, you can get your snow fix by going up the colchuck glacier (easy solo if you stay to the left side and prolly any side is safe)

this is a great idea. keep voting everyone out every year till they act right.
