Brian M
What are your top 3 go-to climbing food items and why? Oatmeal, because it's cheap and versatile. Beef Jerky, for something to chew on. Apple, for day trips.
telemarker
Smoked salmon; Wasabi almonds; Sencha Shot or Goalazo.
genepires
talking alpine or craggin? your choices of oatmeal and apples don't point to any particular sport. who eats oatmeal while craggin? and apples in alpine? alpine breakfast - fried bagels w oil and cheese and precooked bacon alpine during day - lots of those cheap little granola bars, cheese, snickers, more bagels w salami alpine dinner - lipton rice meals w chicken bag. more oil and cheese. mentality of alpine - fat and carbs
montypiton
jelly beans aka "redneck energy gels" bodybuilders weightgainer powder - a 1000 calorie serving of hot chocolate, with abundant electrolyte profile -- I've done entire weekend alpine trips on this and nothing else stovetop dressing -- just add hot water & jerky, tuna, or whatever -- cheap no-cook meal

JasonG
This is the stuff I almost never bring back out of the hills (i.e. I eat it first): Landjaeger Cheese Dark Chocolate (w/ nuts, caramel, sea salt, or whatever) Ramen noodles (don't judge) dried fruit Whiskey/Scotch of any type I always bring way too many bars, especially on long trips. Real food is where it is at.

Slab Mistress
Only real foods I always eat are 95% chocolate, sugar peas, and soyjerky: pretty self explanatory chewy good, chocolate good, fiber good. Everything else is what's tolerable on this list of lightest foods.

The scotch I do not take but might have to take a cheeky bit next time I walk now lol
EternalBlue
Big car to car alpine missions I'll double-scoop tailwind powder into 2x500ml soft flasks of water and ziplock bag a bunch of extra. If the USFS ever stopped and frisked me down it'd look like I'm muling bricks of Colombian energy powder. Couple of handfuls of various energy gel shots, with a caffeinated one thrown in as well. Slices of leftover pizza; load up the toppings.
