stevetimetravlr Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I wonder what brand of backpack that is? Quote
genepires Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 maybe a Lowe pack? He was making packs back then I believe. Quote

Matt Kidd Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I wonder what brand of backpack that is? Vaude I think... Quote
billcoe Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Vaude I think... I heard that you are suppose to insert a a or a when you are joking. Everyone knows that Jeff Lowe was one of the premier pack designers and Mfg in the world way back when. Better than anything, much better than some cheap assed VAude made in China crap. In fact my old climbing partner had that very pack. Even the same colour! I had an old beater ripped up Millet with very thin straps that cause excessive pain which I tried to ignore while I looked over at Bobs very cushy work of art everytime the going got tough: back when I was young. These days, as the picture indicates, Jeff is retired, in a wheelchair, and Lowe packs are not the shit, more like shit, and Grahams amazing Cilogear packs rules the big mountains and hardman routes. ie, times have changed. Got to go, the king is bringing over my old guidebooks I loaned him in @ 5 min! Woot! Going climbing Thursday boyz! Cya! Quote
sobo Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Apparently wrong, bill... From the photo list on the first post of the ST thread in the OP of this thread: Jeff Lowe's Vau De backpack after 20 years frozen into the Eiger Up until 1991, all Vau De backpacks were manufactured in Germany. Since Jeff's climb was in 1991, the same year that VauDe opened their Chinese manufacturing facility, it is more likely than not that Jeff had his pack before then, and hence it was manufactured in Germany, NOT China. I'm grasping at some rational thought and logic here, but I'm jus' sayin'... Quote
G-spotter Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 damn, the mars bars and snickers survived... even Eiger snaffle rats won't eat that shit. of course, there was no horsecock left in the pack. Quote
bstach Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Why does anyone care what was in Lowe's pack? OMG climbing gear!!! OMG...a corroded pot!! What is the archeological significance here? Am I missing something? Quote

kevbone Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Why is he in a wheel chair? What happened to him? Quote
sobo Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Yes, he is that now. Needs two canes or a wheelchair to get around. Quote
billcoe Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Nice catch Sobo, I boffed that one. It really looks like Bobs old Lowe pack too. Quote
ScaredSilly Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Actually, Jeff did not do the designing on the packs but his brother Greg was the designer. Greg also did the design of the Lowe hardware. Quote
DPS Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Wasn't Jeff involved in designing clothing and gear through Latok? Quote
