goatboy Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 What in the world is happening? TR's about snowfall on routes, fresh snow on summits, shivering... where has summer gone? We went to Tieton this past weekend, which I usually reserve for October but it just felt right, somehow. Quote
ivan Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 over - day after labor day means school's back Quote
Plaidman Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Over the rainbow? That damn Dorthy. Got spanked on Little Wing today. I need more summer. Quote
Alex Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Over. My prediction is Wa Pass closes Oct 10th. Quote
JoshK Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Over...sadly. I just hope it transitions to ski season quickly. None of this in-between crap. Quote
curtveld Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 You guys are way to pessimistic. It's pretty common to get a couple weeks of showery weather in late August/early Sept, then clear out for another 2-4 weeks of beautiful fall weather. Quote
Dannible Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 There will still be good days to be had. No one is allowed to use weather as an excuse for not getting out this year. I cant remember being rained on in the mountains for more than an hour this summer, and I was out there some. Less snow is good for fall/winter alpine, more snow means pow turns, and in the mean time it's rock season on this side of the mountains. In short, whatever happens will probably be awesome. Quote
mountainsloth Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 yea, quit jumping the gun! I will make sure i get more rock. The season is not over! Quote
JosephH Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Given 'summer' didn't start until July this year and East winds in the Gorge are singing their song a month earlier than normal I'd say we're fucked with weather kicking in beginning of October like last year. Hope that isn't the case, but not holding my breath for more either. Make the best of every day out you get at this point. Quote
LostCamKenny Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 we'll see... i'm hopeful for a naitive american summer - feels like we just got started in the gorge! but i wouldn't mind if i got to use the tools early this year, either Quote
denalidave Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 I need one more nice weekend to get my summer tick list completed. Quote
counterfeitfake Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 I climbed EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND between the end of May and the beginning of September. I never once got weathered out of a trip and conditions were generally fucking rad. EVERY year people complain about the weather all summer and then complain that summer is over the first rain we get in September. With fall coming, pretty soon people can switch to complaining about how the snow is not the right consistency. Whiners gonna whine. Quote
JosephH Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Maybe you were out doing snow & ice alpine or out the desert, but June was the worst for rock climbing here in pdx since '87 when I moved out. It hasn't been a typical or good year - it's been a short one. Quote

ColinB Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Its almost winter in the Canadian Rockies. Sharpen your ice tools and get driving. Quote

The summer or whatever its called reminded me of that in Siberia. Water ice in July in the PNW anyone? Quote
YocumRidge Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Except for the polar days of course Quote
ivan Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Except for the polar days of course no doubt the reason russians make such fine drunks - who can stop drinking when the sun doesn't go down all summer? Quote
YocumRidge Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 no doubt the reason russians make such fine drunks You would qualify regardless . Quote
