billcoe Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Back on topic, I thought this was a great compilation. http://io9.com/5526826/greatest-fossil-fuel-disasters-in-human-history This isn't the first and won't be the last disaster related to our energy production and usage. Quote
rob Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 This isn't the first and won't be the last disaster related to our energy production and usage. OMG REALLY? I totally thought this was the first. Quote
prole Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Most of the disasters related to our energy production and usage are ongoing. Quote

G-spotter Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 If those mountains are that full of coal how come they haven't burned down yet? Quote
Choada_Boy Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Most of the disasters related to our energy production and usage are ongoing. Or "Sweet-Ass ORV park under construction! Rip it up with your dirt bikes, quads, and monster trucks! Fun for the whole family!!" Quote
Off_White Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) Canada gets in on the fun too! I've heard that the Alberta Tar Sands project is the single largest CO2 point source on the planet. Edited May 10, 2010 by Off_White Quote
Nitrox Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I'm sure most here would endorse eliminating open mines such as this? Quote
rob Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I'm sure most here would endorse eliminating open mines such as this? No. My bike is made out of metal, therefore these open-pit mines are my fault. Quote
Nitrox Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I'm sure most here would endorse eliminating open mines such as this? No. My bike is made out of metal, therefore these open-pit mines are my fault. A lot of these mines are outside of the US so getting government regulations that can effect them may not be possible. The only other option is to reduce demand. It isn't necessarily your "fault" but we're all part of the demand driving their existence. The pictures I posted are from a Bauxite mine which produces aluminum. The other half of your gear (that isn't made from petroleum products) is made from aluminum. Aluminum extraction is one of the most polluting of all mining. But you knew all this, that's why refuse to buy aluminum... Quote
rob Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 The spinach e coli outbreak was my fault, too. I LOVE spinach. Quote
gertlush Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Those pictures obviously show the handiwork of castor canadensis aka the beaver. Quote
rob Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I have 30 years experience in mining, and it is my opinion that trundling is the only reasonable explanation for this kind of devastation. Quote
Nitrox Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 The spinach e coli outbreak was my fault, too. I LOVE spinach. Sweet Red Hearing. Whatever it takes to blame someone else. Quote
Vickster Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 The only way to for sure stop that leak right now is dump a bunch of sand on it and fuse it to glass with a low yield nuclear weapon. Otherwise they can keep trying boyscout badge projects until the cows come home and still fail. Quote

We need the 5 mile diameter Tsar Bomba (50 Megaton) fireball for this one (actual photo!!) Quote
