billcoe Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 "I got that on video dude!" [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fenWzUBndo&feature=related WTF is this? Please so not watch this is you are averse to extreme stupidity and think all belayers and belays are always great. Quote
Rad Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Looks like the climber was lowering after completing a TR and the belayer tried to hold the wrong end of the rope. The belayer certainly deserves the rope-burn he probably got. Lucky this didn't turn out worse. Quote
dirtysloper Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Stupid climbers don't last long. Or at least climbers with stupid belayers don't last long. Quote
rocky_joe Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 why isn't the climber even a little mad? i get annoyed being short roped, but this guy made this error appear to e routine. Quote
rob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I love how his belayer just stands there like nothing happened. Quote
builder206 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I love how his belayer just stands there like nothing happened. You wished for a camera once, too. Quote
rob Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I love how his belayer just stands there like nothing happened. You wished for a camera once, too. Man, I totally wish I literally had that on video. Quote
rocky_joe Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 damn, now that i've watched the video a few times, i'm beginning to wonder if this is a common occurrence with this particular group...I mean not one person of the five in the video even flinches when the climber decks. I dunno about that, having come within a few feet of decking at smith myself (thanks to a just WONDERFUL belay *reeks with sarcasm), I can say that people in the area definitely reacted to seeing bad fall with a lot more gusto than these jerks. And I wasn't even hurt. Quote
G-spotter Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Looks to me like it was preplanned cause they wanted to get a big fall on video. Quote
rob Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Looks to me like it was preplanned cause they wanted to get a big fall on video. OMG, HUGE WHIPPER!!!1 Quote
kevbone Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Looks to me like it was preplanned cause they wanted to get a big fall on video. OMG, HUGE WHIPPER!!!1 I agree Quote
CollinWoods Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 It doesent look like it hurt him too bad, anyways... But if it wasent preplanned, what do i know... Quote
geoff Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Gotta say that video is bogus but I say that about a lot of stuff. Anyhow, are you the dude that had to catch himself when his belayer let the end of the rope slip though the Gri? I was there with my girl and she won't climb anymore b/c of it. If that was you, good catch. Quote
ivan Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 where was that anyhow? kinda looks like broughtons? Quote
dirtysloper Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 This was at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky Quote
