slothrop
It looks like Highway 20 is closed for a good stretch due to a landslide. I can't find any more news about it than this (click on "North Cascade HWY SR20"): web page

Beck
it's closed, and they are going to leave all the debris, etc until after the winter. that will make opening up slower as rocks and trees slow down the snow moving equipment.
geordie
My sources tell me a culvert blocked up and blew out a section of road. If it's at MP 126 (which is what I heard, that makes it West of Colonial Creek CG and ... WATUSI RODEO. I would imagine that given the location of the slides, the DOT is going to make an effort to clear them now and not wait until spring. By the time the repairs are made, however, it will probably be time to close the road anyway. This does suck. I always look forward to some "pre-closure" turns up there. philfort
c'mon sam, Beck must know. He's been in meetings all week with president of the DOT Â Their website says it's going to be closed at Colonial Creek campground for the winter. Is this really true??? Usually closes at the Ross Lake TH...

North_Cascades_Mtn_Guides
For those of you hoping to climb at Wa Pass this fall, Hwy 20 is also closed on the east side at Silver Star Ck gate. While it is still reasonable to ride a bike up from there, plan accordingly if you come over to the Methow.
mattp
If they close highway 20 at Thunder Creek, maybe there will be room to park off the road there instead of parking in the chain-removal lane and getting a ticket.
Lambone
Too bad the DOT didn't post a photo of the slide, I'd like to see it...that's a bummer.

Thnak Jesus that your Trail Park Pass fees will be spent on repairing the damage to trails, instead of on sgns telling you that you need to pay a fee, and paying for printing tickets, and paying The Tool to write tickets all day long. AllYouCanEat
Read this on kirotv.com...  "...On SR 20, state transportation crews were trying to clear culverts and limit damage, Holter said.  "We have large sections of roadway that have washed out. We have guardrails hanging in the air," Holter said. And while the road is usually closed through mid-April, repairs must be made immediately. "If we leave it alone, it will continue to erode the roadway and be much more expensive" to fix...." MPaul_Hansen
There are also a number of 'washouts' [as oppose to slides]. One significant west side washout [impassable to cars] is located at the start of the Pyramid Lake trailhead. This is about 1 mile east, more or less, of Gorge Reservoir, impounded by Gorge Dam [the dam is 2+ miles east of Newhalem, WA].
