The Genius Within - Discovering the Intelligence of Every Living Thing for the second time. GREAT book. Everyone should read it. Displays how our view of intelligence is skewed how your immune system and brain works and how genes are not the origin of life, but merely documentation.

Just finished Eric Schlosser's (Fast Food Nation) last book, Reefer Madness which details 3 major black markets in the US. Those being porn, pot, and migrant labor. Good book, but like FFN, is a bit short on facts and a bit heavy on subjective material.

READ THE GENIUS WITHIN

Just finished "A Chechaco in Alaska" about my wife's great uncle's adventures in Alaska at the turn of the century.

Just started Jubal Sackett by Louis L'Amour

I'm still 2/3rds of the way through Moby Dick by that one guy

Anyone ever tell you guys you are all nurds? Those books look like the summer reading list for Evergreen College. Geek_em8.gifGeek_em8.gifGeek_em8.gifGeek_em8.gif

"Heaven on Earth: The Rise and Fall of Socialism" By Joseph Muravchik. Unabridged "Wealth of Nations" is next, followed by "King Leopold's Ghost" (History of the Belgian occupation of the Congo), by Adam Hochschild, then whatever the definitive account of France's History in North Africa and its other colonies is, and more history from there so I can continue to effortlessly annihiliate the pseudointellectual cranks that post here at will, and at leisure, while they frantically search Google and try to keep up. Bwahahahahahaahaha..... hahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gifhahaha.gif

I'm getting to read "Bias: a CBS Insider exposes how the media distorts the news." It was recommended by Fairweather, so you can guess which way the author thinks the news is distorted. If the weather is bad next week, I'll give you all a book report in the spray forum.

Any suggestions for my enlightenment, Matt? Looks like I'll owe you some balance. Nothing too heavy though!....I'm from Tacoma, afterall. yellaf.gif

Check out "Blinded by the Right" by Brock. It's a NY Times bestseller about the right wing muckraking smear machine. It is not terribly well-written, but paints a picture never-the-less.

Awww, Stupid White Men was FUN!!!

I tried to read the book those guys from Project for a New American Century put together, but I got bored, and THAT made me feel stupid. cry.gif I will say that if you can get throught it (dry as a bone) that it will give you some pretty solid insights into the Bush family agenda for world domination.

I didn't think Reefer was as good as FFN. The history of the porn industry section was a little long and yellowsleep.gif, and the wrapup at the end of the book, which should have been the very best part, was very brief and ended somewhat suddenly. That said, it's still hella better than reading M Chrichton or some other pop fiction crappoleum.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finished "Nanga Parbat Pilgrimmage" by Herman Buhl. Between that, "Mountains of My Life" by Walter Bonatti and "Conquistadors of the Useless" by Lionel Terray, you get a pretty good idea of what the European super-climbers were up to in the 50's. Read "Starlight and Storm" by Gaston Rebuffat too, but didn't like that particularly.

Currently working on "Catch-22" for the 2nd time. Frickin' hilarious, ya gotta read that if you haven't already. Next up will probably be "The Ascent of Rum Doodle."
