  1. Very sad news indeed. I'm pretty wussy when it comes to avy danger but I was surprised to hear that a group was descending a "natural avalanche chute" right after a storm had just deposited 26" of new snow in the previous 48 hours and the temps were warming up. I was at Stevens today and the snow was fairly heavy. Does anyone know if they did a block test?
  2. I like my split. I would never take it up something sketchy in ski mode though. Despite 10 years of being a skier, I'm horrible on that thing in ski mode and the edges just don't feel like I can hold em. I usually ride in my Northwave boots but have occasionally used just normal hiking boots. So why have a split? I just like riding away from the crowds on nice powder. Nothing hardcore about that. Skinning up and sliding down is a nice way to spend the day.
  3. Im trying to understand exactly where this is. Looking at the picture at the top, is the Chimney routes hugging the left side and you're skiing down the middle of the gully, which would just be the glacier coming down off Shuksan?
  4. A few of us are looking for ideas for this weekend. Had planned on doing a couple runs up table mountain and then camping out on the backside that night followed by a couple runs the next day before heading back to seatown. Problem is that the snow looks crappy for the weekend. Hard packed and chunky. We want to get out and to do a split-boarding adventure (or x-country ski) including a camp in the snow but now am lost on what to do? Ideas? Baker area seems best for good snow coverage and we have access to a cabin on Friday night Reading another TR below, it seems the heliotrope ridge might be some good fun? With 200" of snow I'm thinking everything should be filled in, right? Would love to hear any suggestions. Thanks
  5. Was really happy to not encounter knee problems after getting Patella Tendinitis after too much running. Also, I'm sexier than all of you...
  6. I couldn't get that link to work. 404...
  7. I don't post a lot here anymore, but always happy to get some summer stoke along with my beer. See you there!
  8. They have sort of updated it now. Saying 7k snow level on friday through saturday. ugh. I guess we can just hope for no precip...
  9. What's the story with this forecast? 46 degrees and snowing on friday? Can someone make sense of this for me? Planning on going to baker with the dad guy this week but this report has me second guessing my options. Is this a temperature inversion or something? I checked accuweather as well and they sort of validate the forecast. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?site=sew&textField1=48.80&textField2=-121.63&zone=1
  10. yea, had heard that people were sinking right down to the rocks a couple days prior so it didn't sound too good. Glad that wasn't the case.
  11. Was boarding on the resort on Saturday and didn't even notice anybody on table. nice!
  12. Baker to open on Thursday (tenative)! w00p
  13. Any recommendations? I was thinking about picking up some Flows this year. The Amp5 came to mind as a good mid-range option. Anybody got any advice? BTW - I won a Rossignol Works 162 at the TGR film on Sunday. Raffles do work!
  14. Crazy avy video on the first page. http://pistehors.com/news/ski/comments/0623-analysis-french-avalanche-accidents-2005-2006/ http://pistehors.com/news/ski/comments/0623-analysis-french-avalanche-accidents-2005-2006/
  15. I just picked up the Viole 166 FR on backcountry.com today with a 15% coupon, no tax, and free shipping. w00p! Let's get this season on!
  16. For the last year or so, I've been unable to get the "remember me" option to work. I used to stay logged in, but now as soon as i leave the site, i have to relogin. This feature works on other web sites fine for me. I use IE 6.something on XP.
  17. What do you think of the 73? I am 170-175 lbs and currently ride a Nitro Team 162 and have sometimes had a hard time keeping it up in wetter snow. Currently debating the 166 FR vs the 173 FR as it's on bentgate for $660 right now.
  18. But do they make any softshells that are cool enough for us snowboarders? All I ever see are those spandex-tight ones that only a skier would wear...
  19. Buying a splitboard this year. Any good advice on where to get a good deal on two? I've got a buddy who is going to get one as well. Pretty sure we're going to get the viole freeride because of the price and I've used one before. Everything online seems to be full-retail. I figure there's got to be some local guy that could swing us a deal on two, don't ya think?
  20. Love the mother's day skiing event. Hope it runs this year! Any more news?
  21. from the website WE HAVE SET AN EXPECTED OPENING DAY OF NEXT TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 8TH OR 9TH. THIS COULD BE THE EARLIEST OPENING IN OVER A DECADE. IT IS CURRENTLY 32 DEGREES AND SNOWING UP ON THE MOUNTAIN. WE HAVE 24 INCHES AT HEATHER MEADOWS, WITH 36 AT MIDMOUNTAIN AND OVER 40 INCHES ON TOP OF PAN DOME. THE GROOMERS HAVE BEEN OUT ON THE MOUNTAIN AND THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD, BUT WE ARE STILLLL LOOKING FOR A LITTLE BETTER COVERAGE BEFORE WE FEEL WE CAN OPEN WITH GOOD CONDITIONS. FORECASTS ARE CALLING FOR BETWEEN 3 TO 4 FEET OF NEW SNOW BETWEEN NOW AND NEXT TUESDAY AND WE ARE HOPING THAT WITH THIS ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL WE WILL BE ABLE TO OPEN AS MANY LIFTS AS POSSIBLE ON NEXT TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY. NOW, WE KNOW YOU ARE ALL ANXIOUS TO GET ON THE MOUNTAIN, BUT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE A GREAT OPENING DAY FOR YOU WITH LOTS OF SNOW!
  22. Yahoo has created a new adventures section. First trip to come up is Expedition : Eiger. Don't know where this will go or if it will be any good, but worth checking out over the next few days to see. Yahoo Adventures
  23. I have the Ryobi 18v set and I like it. It's half the price of the Rigid and rated the best choice on consumer reports. I've done a bunch of stuff indoors and built a 500sq ft deck with the kit (though i used a wired, compound miter for most of the wood cutting). The batteries last a long time in the drill, not so much in the saw. I'm not a construction expert, but it seems that for the average home fixer it would work fine.
