  1. Sounds like the doc should seak treatment for that addiction - possibly a bit of trad groveling?
  2. And how much did the good doctor shell out for his last Prana beanie? Or that last stylie S7 tee?
  3. Where was it msr. cracked that these pants failed you so horribly?
  4. Methinks that some electroshock therapy is in order.... or possibly just a heavy dose of risperidone.
  5. Whatever. I've used my guide pants (the older, Schoeller ones) for 7 years now. They've gone skiing, climbing, biking, running, and other assorted activities for years. But there not versatile, and they don't crinkle. And they don't have a really pimping big logo to show off to all my friends.
  6. The NYSDEC runs the Adirondak park. The largest park in the Lower 48 states. With easily a lifetime of climbing. That they're specifically targetting fixed anchors is a big issue.
  7. In the East at least that's most definitely NOT misinformation. The New York Departmant of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has recently banned all fixed anchors - with particular emphasis on bolts - in the Giant/Dix wilderness (that includes Chapel Pond Slab)http://www.neice.com/Articles/FixedAnchors.htm
  8. How can there be a "misinformation" about ethics?
  9. Because New England's trad land, and they'd like to keep it that way. They've a much higher climber/area ratio than us in the west and much less possibility for further expansion - so they'd like to keep what they've got the way it is.
  10. I think you were a minute too late there Dru...
  11. If you've got a scientific calculator - Divide the elevation change by 5280. Take the AntiTangent of this (usually Tan-1 - or with the windows calculator, click the inverse button) - this is the measure in degrees of your slope (in the case you mentioned 5.62 degrees)

Is "Svolvaer Gjeita" on the cover of the Webster guide? That climb looks awesome - and I'd be interested in seeing those pics sometime
  13. There was a thread not to long ago about it. 4th of July weekend there was a volunteer handing out a U of Idaho survey at the Cold Springs parking lot on Adams.
  14. They're also owned by Wendy's - I severely doubt Wendy is of Hispanic origin.
  15. Will Gadd is mildly asthmatic.

From Scotland or the UK no. Being half up the coast, it's a bit of a haul from the states.
  17. Gracias - I might have to wonder over there tonight....do they have decent Margaritas?
  18. So far none in the NW Mazatlan, Santa Fe and Hungry Dog are all overpriced and mediocre (but then that describes much of NW PDX, excluding certain martini producing happy hours at the lascivious legume)

You've drooled over the Webster guide too? Acess be a bit of a problem to the Lofoten
  20. Talking Seracs!
  21. Route Finding is an acquired skill. Seeing in the dark isn't.
  22. A hearty second to that! I had a similar experience with their bivy sac, which I've not repeated with a GTX bivy or the Winter bivy. I wouldn't say Goretex is a scam, it just works best when your not expelling a ton of moisture - like Downhill skiing, or walking around Piioneer Courthouse Square in the rain...
  23. Amen to that! My black pants are now a lighter shade of pale
  24. If you've got tiny feet Life-Link has the TLT4's for dirt cheap ($125 and available with a Thermoflex liner) http://www.life-link.com/specials.htm#boots
  25. From topozone that would look to be Miller Island http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=10&n=5056835&e=663123&size=l Pics here: http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Imgs/Jpg/ColumbiaRiver/columbia_river_miller_island_from_maryhill_2003.jpg http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Imgs/Jpg/ColumbiaRiver/miller_island_from_washington_hwy-14_2003.jpg
