  1. What's the difference between a Tillamook county man and a large pizza? The pizza can feed a family of 4.
  2. There are a bunch that drive around Hillsboro. Usually it's some middle age guy trying to look cool. I always point my finger at them and laugh. They REALLY don't like it
  3. Several times I've left a cam stuck in a crack because I hope to use it the next time I climb that route. I trust other climbers not to remove it. No shit, you do that too??? Yeah. Some dickhead takes it every time too.
  4. So you've never taken a piece of booty in your life? Ever? Not even a sling? Or a booty cam? Either your lying or you don't get out much.
  5. Several times I've left a cam stuck in a crack because I hope to use it the next time I climb that route. I trust other climbers not to remove it.
  6. What do you do in the evening?

Granny? Here in Oregon it just seems to be people with WA plates - irrespective of age.
  8. No love of cardboard pizza? If you're in Grand Marais make sure you stop by the pie place on the south side of town (my minds drawing a blank as to the name) Damn good pies, and better than the tourist trap Betty's.
  9. From the Access Fund Newsletter: 3. Washington State’s North Cascades National Park To Develop A New Climbing Management Plan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Over the past few years, outstanding new sport climbing and bouldering areas have been developed north of Seattle in the Skagit River Gorge between the towns of Newhalem and Diablo. Route development includes bolted sport climbs and bouldering, both of which require the cleaning of moss and vegetation. Local climbers have also been active clearing rock and debris to create trails and improve landing zones at bouldering areas. A detailed website of one of the climbing areas has been developed and word has spread quickly among the Seattle climbing community. Last year the cleaning of moss and debris at the bouldering area created some controversy when a NPS ranger found tools cached by the boulderers and confiscated them. Around that time, the Access Fund met with NPS officials to start a communication process for local climbers to be informed about the concerns of park rangers. Also, climbers would be informed about the degree of acceptable climbing, bouldering and cleaning. There is great potential for additional climbing areas in the many front-country areas of the Ross Lake National Recreation Area (a sub-unit of North Cascades NP), but the NPS asked local climbers to stop developing both the new bouldering and bolted sport climbing routes while a climbing management plan (CMP) was being developed for the area and resource impacts were analyzed. Local climbers agreed to halt their development of the area while a CMP is developed. In early July, Access Fund Policy Director Jason Keith traveled to the North Cascades National Park Complex and met NPs officials to discuss climbing management alternatives for the CMP and perform a site inspection of the new rock climbing and bouldering areas just upstream from the town of Newhalem. Keith also met with local climbers to hear their concerns and comments for managing the area. He was later accompanied by seven senior level NPs staff - including the park supervisor, chief ranger, and several lead resource specialists - into the field to inspect the sport climbing and bouldering areas. After viewing the climbing and bouldering, park officials expressed concern about the cleaning of moss and leveling of landing zones. Nevertheless, they were open to some new route and bouldering development. The upcoming CMP will likely include a process whereby new sport routes and bouldering can be developed. This fall a climbing management “scoping” letter is planned to go public. A draft CMP should be released for comment sometime this winter. If all goes according to plan, new route development at this excellent area could be authorized by next year’s climbing season. 10. Yeah I've heard it argued that you should have the fleece on the outside & nylon on the inside for better breathability. Fleece on the outside gets picks up snow (which then melts and turns into water) like no business negating any breathability benefits. The only problem with the Marmot windshirts (and why I don't own one) is the wrist is to loose for me on the size that fits my shoulders.
  11. 1)The shell directly against the skin can feel clammy and nasty 2)It's not fleece - more a brushed lining 3)Whats nice about the Windshirt is that it's pretty good at most everything it does. I have a Patagonia Zephyur (the old Windshirt clone). It's great for bc skiing, slogging, etc. , wear it against the skin (or if it's cold throw silkweight capi underneath). Sure you could probably get better performance by seperating the functions - but then you'd have to deal with another layer of clothing.
  12. I had one ask me what a Kendall Mint Cake tasted like...
  13. Indeed it does - far too quickly to pay attention to quack diets with no benefits beyond the placebo effect.
  14. It took 6 employees at REI in Tualitin to figure out what a replacement pick for an ice tool was - and then they had to look up if they even had one (they didn't). REI in Tualation rims.
  15. Epic works oh grand gear insider....
  16. Mountain Woman- With all do respect, just because your losing weight, doens't mean the diets healthy. Most of america coud go on the Gulag diet and lose weight - that doesn't mean it's healthy, or the best solution. With all honesty the best diet I've found is calorie reduction - simple things like 1 beer a day, no more candy, and no bacon at breakfast, coupled with an evening walk(in addition to waterever normal exerise routine) can make all the difference.
  17. Hmm. I don't think it's surprising that my browser replied: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/active25.cgi on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request
  18. If (and thats a big if!) they've got snow - Ski Bowl has some of the best terrain up there. And it's relatively scene free. That's the if they get snow.
  19. If that doesn't work (it should) - a very light touch with light weight steel wool will.
  20. Middle Teton & South Teton both have scrambles/snow routes leading from the Col between them. The East face of Teewinot is also a classic (4th class-ish). I've not been to cirque of the towers, but lots of nice stuff down that away.
  21. Common iain! Now we can have glade skiing! On the west coast! No need to fly to Mad River Glen now!
  22. Yeah there are supposed to be specific beneficial foods for each type. My doc gave me a 5-page handout for Type A. I did a quick google for O's and it seems that you're meat eaters/high protein, but didn't list specifics. But my doc didn't categorize people like that. I could be a meat eater, too, but have to avoid bacon (mmmmm), beef (mmmmmm), and liver (fine by me). I think if you look at the book "Eat Right 4 Your Type" it lists all the specific foods. But again....I'm not totally endorsing this program cuz I don't know anyone who's done it.....hence this thread...... I'm not O-, but a number of people I know are... I was more asking because as a universal donor I'd think the O- diet would be fairly similar to all the others. I'm suspicious that it's not.
  23. Is there a special diet for 0- people?
  24. Yes, and no. The tool was the standard tiny Chouinard alpine/crag hammer,(see here http://climbaz.com/chouinard72/ch_page30.html) but had a replaceable pick. They had a standard alpine pick available, but also had several "cleaning" picks available. I know a store that still had some of the replaceable picks (no hammers) as of last year. The hammers show up a couple times a month on eBay.
