  1. A lot of crazy stuff has been happening on the moon, but I guess nobody's been watching it on TV 8DF9nDJZrdA This was in 1999. Just think what they're doing now.
  2. I went to the parade in Carnation on the 4th. One fellow in the parade had a 4wd monster rig that was so wide that it would be illegal to drive it on any road. It also wouldn't fit on 98% of the jeep tracks out there. Another group in the parade had some regular looking Suburban type vehicles, but the driver and passenger sat in a cab that was 15' off the ground. Other than driving slow in a parade those things would tip over if somebody sneezed. If not you'd clip phone lines when you tried to drive, "under," them.
  3. It can be done. I've done it a bit back awhile ago. Basically it's not very fun. Some would say it really sucks. Climbing boots and ski boots are quite different. If I were approaching an ice climb in the winter then climbing boots might be better. In that case the focus of your trip is the climb. The reasons you want skis and climbing boots is they beat the hell out of postholing, and they're way better then snowshoes (stupid shoes). This time of year step kicking to approach a climb should do you just fine. I'm tempted to go into a rant about snowshoers using skin tracks, but I'll hold off till next winter.
  4. I figure if Ralf Nader or somebody like him becomes president then we'll be out of Iraq pronto. Obviously McCain ain't withdrawing any time soon. To him this is basically the 100 year war. Barak is realistic enough to know that withdrawal after we solved one problem but created another isn't going to happen. Basically all politicians say lots of stuff, but then instantly change their mind in office. All politicians do that. That's life. One thing I know for sure is Bush is out the door next January and that's a really good thing.
  5. Hmmm 2 days work. That's one weekend per year; though maybe they only do that kind of stuff during the weekday when lots of folks have jobs. I've had a good time at Index putting in a day of work. I didn't get anything out of that other than feeling good. The 6 day thing might be a tough one. But if you've got time..... Spending a week isn't that much if you're taking months off to climb. One downside would be that as a volunteer you don't make decisions. You're just the flunky employee, but we've all been there at one time or another.

    Obama

Hey Scotty. When you signed up for the military is this a reenactment of your interview prior to acceptance into the military?
  8. Where ya been Dave?

    Alan Jackson

Country music like Hank, Johny, Willey, Waylen, and a number of the other old timers is really good. New Country is shitty pop crap.
  10. If I wanted to go to Nordstroms then I would go straight there and not mess around with, "Outdoors Nordstroms." REI is funny. They went downhill after the move from Capital Hill, and the downtown REI is even stupider then it was when they first moved there. I like going there to laugh at the place every once in awhile.

Not only is blowing shit up your right as an American it is also your responsibility!
  13. All I remember from Ned was the IGA (I think) grocery store and the Pioneer Inn. There were a couple other restaurants there too. I'm sure I would remember a Mountain People's Coop. One time when I was driving back from work up Boulder Canyon some dude passed me and a couple other drivers using somewhat sketchy tactics. I drove straight to the grocery store and so did the crazy driver dude. While buying groceries another guy comes up to crazy driver dude and starts screaming at him for bad driving. It was hilarious. and it was before I new anything about internet spray forums. Live in person is way better.
  14. I paid a lot of money to some dude in the King Soopers parking lot for this authentic French crap uhh I mean furniture.

Who said anything about blowing people up. I agree there's nothing nice about that. I want to blow shit up that isn't living. Blowing people up will not stimulate the economy.

    Finally

Uncle Sam has given me the power to stimulate the economy. I feel so privileged. I'm going to buy on of those IED things for the 4th.
  18. I want to hear too.
  19. Yeah it was an impressive story.
  20. I remember going out on the Nisqually glacier with a Mountaineer group to learn crevasse rescue. This was back in the 70s and our group had a couple hundred folks in it. You can't get a permit to do that these days.
  21. Sorry folks trad guy will not be back to answer questions. Having seen others and being personally involved in accidents involving death I will not put up with a disregard of reality and attacks on climbers stuck in a very unfortunate event.
  22. It's Trad Guy leading a Trad Mountaineering class. The head end is testing cell reception with the tail end. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW :lmao:
  23. Once again dipshit that would be the northeast side of the mountain. Climbers prepare for climbing by: 1 reading guidebooks by trusted authors. 2 Talking to people who have any firsthand experience with a route or routes in a region. 3 Checking the weather then either changing plans or packing accordingly. 4 Always be prepared to change plans and bail if either things don't look good or your gut tells you to bail. This can happen at any point on the climb. That's some of the basics. Electronic devices are no substitute for good judgement. Even then accidents can happen. Everybody knows that climbing is dangerous, but climbers are willing to accept that risk (some of the time).
  24. So Trad Guy you're kind of new to these parts of the world. Let me be the first to tell you you're not in the North West. Around here It's called the Northwest. Other than making that minor error you've demonstrated a massive lack of knowledge of climbing in the Northwest. Climbers have been active in remote mountains for years and years. My dad was an active climber in the 50s. Let me tell you something... They didn't have cell phones and GPS in the 50s Despite that some amazing climbs happened here. I started climbing in the 70s and I learned then that you have to be aware that you are going places where you can't call for help. That is what you have to prepare for. Today we have a lot of fancy pants devices that we can use, but that doesn't mean that things are different. You still need to be prepared to go climbing knowing that you can't pick up your cell phone and dial 911. I was down on the northeast side of Rainier this last weekend. Guess what There was no cell phone reception. Go ahead and post links to your stupid website. I ain't clicking on them, and I would urge everybody else reading this to do the same. You obviously don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
  25. Yeah now I'm going to buy a gun to defend myself against Fairweather and his whack job buddies. Folks in Spokane have the extreme version of the game
