In urban environments when you hate a tree and want to kill it you still may have to hug a tree.

The up to the minute update on this one. Things are looking even worse for the hippies unless a city hall march wins an appeal. 1800 calorie, "energy," bars just aren't enough When the web page comes up look on the right side of the screen and click on the video image dated July 23. A small video will start playing, but another right click on the video will take you to full screen. (recommended )

First off I'm not a parent (to the best of my knoledge). I used to occasionally get spanked by my dad when I was young. This happened after I had done something that I shouldn't have done. The main point is that this was a rare event, and usually this happened after my parents explained to me what I had done wrong. It was always a last resort kind of thing. On other occasions me doing something bad might lead to the punishment of, "go sit in your room till I tell you to come out," or, "go outside and play right now." The main point is kids need to learn that actions lead to reactions from others. It's a valuable bit of knowledge that you can use when interacting with strangers in the outside world. I'm totally down with the concept of not beating your kid, but spanking is ok occasionally especially when an adult explains what you did wrong and then says, "I'm doing this because you refused to listen to me when I said...." Also in Jr High art class the teacher had a paddle hanging on the wall. He'd tell the class, "get out of line and face the paddle." We all though it was pretty funny, and occasionally he'd use it.

Yeah hopefully he will get better. Knowing a bit about the subject injuries like that take a long time to get over. Anything involving the brain is not anything like breaking a bone, and that sucks. Good luck to the guy.

Yeah Space Sticks were cool. I thought by eating them I was training for all the time I was destined to spend on the moon. I mean ya gotta get ready for the future.

I forget what the fee was, but I remember driving across 520 with my folks and them paying a toll. The toll was there to pay for the bridge. It's really not too surprising that paying for a new bridge means a new toll. Hell there were tolls to drive across I-90 a long long time ago. Couple that with the trend in Europe and the Eastern US it ain't too surprising that there's talk of tolls on a new bridge. Just wait in 15 years it'll cost you a fee to drive to Snoqualmie Pass.

My advice is go big or go home. Why not Willis Wall for your first time up the big R. Not only will you be going big you'll also be going stupid your first time up. Make like the cat

My thought as well.

the Himalayas are cool for sure, but they are harder to get to for most North Americans.

I've snowborded a very small amount. There's no doubt that it is a cool way to slide on snow. I also know some folks who can rip it up without sideslipping. It does fall down in the bc when you get to transition zones. You rip it up down a nice slope then you have to screw around with your board when you get to a low angle slide out, or you need to skin up a hill. Both of these transitions require a lot more screwing around than either AT or tele. Still it is an interesting way to slide. I could say the same about tele. It is an interesting technique, but it is a silly technique for real mountains. Going back in history tele came from an area of the world with long rolling hills. It served those folks well. Eventually folks from the Alps saw it and liked it and brought it back home. Soon they realised that they had steep slopes to ski down, and fixing the heal for descent was the way to deal with their problem. That happened long ago. It was only much later that people tried to keep the tele technique on real slopes. This all ended with all the, "free your heal and your mind will follow," horseshit. I've spent years skiing with tele folks. They all were aghast at my AT technique. I'd constantly explain to them that the AT technique was the dominant skiing technique in the NW and their style while cool was more of a late bloomer. Today after seeing all the problems tele skiers have with making their style work on bigger mountains, and their equipment too, I'm convinced that the changes are leading them back to AT. All they really have left is an elitist attitude from the bad old hippie days. Now I figure if you must tele the totally rad skiing with tele gear is: Ski Jumping XC racing but most importantly Biathlon I mean skiing through the woods with a rifle and blasting shit. How much better can you get. I'm just sorry that that sport hasn't caught on more in the US. When I get older I'm going to take that up.

Canadian Rockies. Yeah I know the rock is scary, but climbing some of the routes there is fucking rad. At the summit I've said, "thank god I never have to come back," a number of times, but I'm still happy with all the stuff I've done there.

I don't know current laws, but they had some funny rules in Colorado in the 90s. In the 90s there was no motorcycle helmet law. What was on the law books was a rule stating that while driving a motorcycle you had to wear sunglasses.

I haven't done both the summit and Ape Caves together. I just went through Ape Caves for the first time back 3 years ago. The caves are cool.

For Fayreweather and others Anti-science conservatives must be stopped

Exactly This statement is totally wrong. Yeah whatever. Now in the old days when tele folks were skiing in leather boots without full shanks I might agree, but it's been a long time since tele folks were skiing leather boots and three pin bindings. Today Tele boots are just crappy versions of AT boots. Now if we go back in time to the 50s most people in the northwest were skiing AT setups. Slightly different, but you locked your heal to descend. How can I say this? Well I know a ton of local NW backcountry skiers from the old days. They've all told me about the way things were. Hell I never met him but I know people who skied with Dr. Spickard (you have heard of Mount Spickard) He and all of them were on AT. It's only in modern times that tele got a boost. Where did it get it it's boost? A bunch of dirty hippies gave it the kick. All I have to say is: 1) Take a shower 2) Get a haircut 3) Lock your heals on descent

Fayreweather also knows some hillbilly veterinarians down in Oregon who've written fancy looking papers about how climate change is false.

I hear there's an abundance of hot air out there.

I've got a better idea. Lets reopen the Asarco Plant and build an even bigger smoke stack. Asarco
