  1. gota second the Salish recommendation. Didn't mind stepping on some bolts either.
  2. maybe NEWS, now there's a nice sandbag. of course none of these little boys make THE list.
  3. the pickets might have a few. how about ETN? and mr. kilo, what is the hardest pk. skied by its easiest route currently?
  4. good suggestions from Tony. For CNR C2C in one day, approach over Goat Pass and descent via Casciadian might be my second choice.
  5. scary cool looking peak. look for fresh beta pics on scurlock's site to get a feel for conditions in the general area. generally plan for slow travel in the afternoons.

    Pants fit question

for insulation layer, you might try an ultralight shell layer over your tight pants.
  7. Mowich face on rainier in Sept. Was a good choice and conditions. Yes I know it's a ski route. Good carving conditions as I remember. Easy sticks for us without having to swing much at all. Summit bivy and then down the DC. I'm sure I was thinking at the time, another 30 years and folks will be shredding here soon. Not
  8. Blake, I've got a demo HighLite you're welcome to take out for a spin sometime. I think ericb sums it up well. If you like the fit of the HighLite you'll probably like the bag. If not the MontBell Super Stretch is a great system. Western also has the Caribou but it's not 16 oz. I find the way the shoulder and hood closes on the HighLite to be a bit more restrictive than other Western bags of the same shoulder girth (59") like the SummerLite for example. Just a bit. We also have some interesting down bags from Macpac. Waterproof/breathable seam taped shell fabric, and I think the Epic 150 (note: not Epic fabric you might know) weighs just over 1 lb. Sky and a few others have used my demo. The others (WM, MB) seem to be warmer but not waterproof either.
  9. what up, you getting tired of the n side approach?

  11. v slot friction adjustment is nice
  12. extreme dude you. mine sheds ice well so far.
  13. It is interesting to note that the Petzl Meteor actually absorbs more impact. Lower impact is transmitted to the head compared to say the Ecrin Roc or HB Dyneema helmets. So in a hard fall the Meteor actually protects the head from injury more. I understand what folks are saying about multiple frequent rockfall hits, but for the average user the Meteor seems like a reasonable choice too. I'm not used to experiencing much rockfall at all, but maybe I'm doing the wrong routes or something. In summary the most important thing is to be wearing some type of helmet, hopefully a CE or UIAA certified one.
  14. better yet, lake serene picnic
  15. big tent and a small tent
  16. Petzl Aztarex. good plunging shaft, light, good pick, and GripSwitch for extreme ice or mixed.
  17. there's a Petzl Longlife on midway direct direct
  18. I've found it helpful to spend a couple days at Tuolumne or Donner beforehand. Somewhere you can sleep at altitude a couple nights before heading to the high Sierra. Great climbing down there though.
