  1. A bit sensitive on the spelling of your name are you?
  2. Yes but trying to wrestle your way up either of the north face gullies with skis on your back might be more than a little sketchy.
  3. Carver's mostly about bouldering. There really isn't much of a variety of climbs there. That 5.9 is a pretty much a 5.7 with, as you pointed out, one spicey move on it. Madrone's got so much more.
  4. Another for Climb Max. Although they don't have a very good selection on attire they are the best climbing shop in town. And fair. When I bought some crampons recently I noticed they had Bionics with a price on the box that was not the same as the price on the display--the price on the box was significantly less. When I asked about this I was told they had bought out another store's inventory and hadn't gotten around to changing the prices on the box yet. Regardless, he gave me the lower price. All the stores in the local area have their niche. I think we're pretty lucky to have so many to make the field more competitively priced.
  5. Depends on which trailhead you mean. The road is gated at the lower trailhead.
  6. Who did you bill for that? God it sucks to be in an office today. Thanks for the entertainment Chris.
  7. I have weird feet. Plastics are warmer and more comfortable if you have little or no approach but everytime I wore my invernos for more than say, a mile, my shins would get torn up. That is, until I learned the tricks described above. Even so, I find my level of comfort greatly enhanced by wearing insulated leather boots. Just try keeping the uppers loose when walking downhill and tighten them up when you are getting down to business.
  8. I used to have this problem with my Invernos. Follow Matts advice as well as put some duct tape on your shins. Until you get different boots. I never wear my invernos anymore.
  9. Jesus its warm outside! Goddam global warming.

    Dead

No, their mouth is in the way.
  11. I have a lafuma warm-n-lite 600 down bag. Weighs 1 pound and stuffs down to the size of a beer can. I think its rated to 35F.
  12. I think you mean Jantzen Beach. It moved to the Pearl--which is ridiculously inconvenient. Thanks for the heads up about the Tualatin store. I thought it closed. I haven't been in the burbs in a long time.
  13. Does it get you high?
  14. Portland's market wasn't much bigger than Bend's is now when REI first entered the city.
  15. I don't understand all the bitching. REI has been in Portland for a long time. I don't see US Outdoor, Mountain Shop or Climb Max going out of business any time soon. On the contrary, REI actually closed one of its own stores (the tualatin store). Redpoint et al serve a different niche market. If you don't beleive that go back and read the countless posts bitching about REI in the other forum. Fact is, REI doesn't serve the climbing community anymore. I can't even remember the last time I bought something at REI. Oh yeah, it was for Winter's wedding present. This reminds me of the bitching that went on when Starbucks announced they were opening a store on Division near climb max. Everyone worried that the other coffee shops would suffer. Instead they saw their business grow.
  16. The timberline trail is a fun outing for sure. Watch the weather forecast though--heavy rains make some of the stream crossings very spicy.

    Depth Charges

I recall when non-fat espresso beverages were called "skinny", e.g. "tall skinny latte." That is, until some fat chick got offended. Now they are referred to as "tall non-fat latte" I just drink coffee.

I take it you are missing some fingers.
  19. 1926 Model T gets about 25mpg on average. 2005 Ford Focus gets 26mpg. 2005 Ford Explorer 15 mpg. 2005 Ford F150 (4WD) gets 14mpg. You would think that in 80 years auto manufacturers would have been able to do better than this.
  20. YOCUM: Y-O-C-U-M, YOCUM
  21. Funny thing is that NOLSe is probably out climbing while you windbags are still yammering away.
