so, why not have some rich financers and maybe some grass roots organizations who care about this issue set up a completely non-profit insurance company whose goal is to minimize operating costs and hassle for it's subscribers while paying for as much of health costs to it's subscribers with an affordable premium? no, i'm not talking about the federal government, but a private non-profit company. Like a private, insurance co-op? Sounds like a good start. Don't things like this exist? Used to be--they were called "mutual" insurance companies.

Not to mention all the electronic/videographic monitoring equipment on board. Tvash, is there anything you are not an expert on?

Hmmm. . I've got two sets of skins with the mesh "cheater" sheets and I like them. Makes it easier to separate the skins. I've also never stored my skins in the fridge. Maybe my basement is cool enough. One set is at least 5 years old, the other 2 years. Glue is just fine.

We did the ledges in the summer one year. As others have noted, there was tons of crap raining down on the descent. It definitely motivated us to move fast.

If the toureg got stuck it was because the guy driving it is a tool. The toureg has won the dakar rally (two years in a row I think). They are super beefy. I had a 4runner and not only was it the biggest POS I ever owned, but it also got the worst mileage of any car I owned: 15 in the city and 18 on the highway if I was lucky. V6 and gutless on hills.

Dont carry a balance on your credit card. I use one that gives me miles--I've traveled extensively using these miles. Going to Austria for free. Beat them at their own game.

My father in-law has one. Its an ok car. Get the diesel model. At least you wont have to worry about anyone stealing it.

I agree with what John says. Leave the upper portion of the boot unlaced until you get to more technical terrain. In addition, slapping a piece of duct tape on your shin where the boot rubs can help alleviate any friction when you do lace it up.

And a tram used to run to the top with old city buses as gondolas.

Used gear runs the gamut on pricing. Don't go ghetto on your boots and if you are serious, lay out the coin to get a decent pair of boots fitted to your feet by someone who knows what they are doing. Skis and bindings are less important and you can get a thrasher pair for your learning curve. If you've never skied before, get an AT setup and spend some time on the lifts with someone who can give you pointers. Don't bother with tele unless you are a masochist.
