  1. At least he is serving. Props to McCain for not discouraging his son or getting him a cushy REMF job.

    REI

I know I will when re-allocating that ~$1200 that I was looking at if I paid for the ticket with cash.

    REI

REI gear << cash or airline miles Airline cards charge for their cards or have restrictions- no interest here. BTW, if you hang out and wait till like July, you can get cash on an REI card, instead of gear. I pay no fees for my airline mileage award visa (I don't carry a balance on it) and the only restrictions are blackout dates for flights. Even so, I am skiing in the alps next winter and used miles to book the flight.
  4. Can't remember the name of the route I climbed on that rock (easy, 5.6 or so multi-pitch) but the bolts were ridiculously close together. You could clip two of them from one stance if you so chose.
  5. Might help to say where you are located.
  6. Ship it to yourself.

    Jokes......

Ivan--remember that joke I was telling you while climbing at Smith and the woman next to us yelled out the punch line?

    Satriani Vs. Vai

The give-a-shitometer is really pegged on this one.

    Richardson

I think too often people look to their jobs for some sort of validation or justification for their existence, hence the sense of unfulfillment or ennui. While I enjoy what I do and find it challenging, I view it as a means to an end; it provides me with the financial security and means to pursue the things I do find fulfilling. Like beer.
  14. I love my Mt Bakers. They're mounted with dynafit vertical STs and I use dynafit boots as well. I am extremely happy with them. I got my Mt. Baker's new for half price. Good luck finding any bargains on dynafit bindings though.
  15. Another vote for the fish duffel. Bomber construction and Russ is very cool about fixing/repairing it if you get a puncture or tear.

    AMR/Medic One

I worked as an EMT for AMR briefly--in PDX
  17. As Trogdor pointed out, both styles of helmets are certified. I think the instructors concern might be directed towards the fact that the polycarbonate helmets can take repeated blows while the polystyrene can really only sustain one serious blow before they should be (or will have to be) replaced.
  18. Is that a red heeler? I got a red heeler from the pound several years back. Named him Indy (I'm Not Dead Yet). He used to be fond of guiness until he over-consumed.

  20. If you are going to do the trade route on Denali, take minimal food and little fuel. Once you get to the 14K camp you can have your pick of free food and fuel from all those leaving and trying to lighten their load. We actually had the luxury of picking and choosing food from others giving it away.
  21. Linthwaite. Damn, Eric--you guys look a lot alike.
  22. It can be a very expensive hobby too!
  23. I've offered him a pair of BRAND NEW skis (albeit older BD skis that are like 210s or so) and someone else offered ramer bindings for free but apparently he would rather slog. The stuff sat in my basement for a couple years waiting for him to get it.
  24. Lucinda Williams
  25. You kids get off my lawn!
