  1. Forecast I just saw on the tube said weather will be turning south late tonight. Why risk it?
  2. American Apparel's CEO is also the defendant in a number of sexual harrassment claims by his employees. Apparently he's taken a fondness for showing up in meetings showcasing the underwear.
  3. I used soft contacts for years (accuvue multi-day lenses) with no problems until a trip to Bolivia. Slept with them in at 18K and woke up to blurry vision that got progressively worse until I removed the lenses and descended to our base camp. An opthalmologist told me I had corneal edema caused from a restricted oxygen flow due to the contacts. Probably could have been avoided by removing the contacts before sleeping but who wants to mess with them at that point? I had LASIK done as soon thereafter as possible.
  4. Yup--Broken Top. Congrats Timmay! Now that you have more time, bring back the Puppy Porn!
  5. With all the banner ads, military solicitations, etc., the site needs to hold a fundraiser?

    Bike flats

+1 on the gator skins. I would routinely get flats (pinch flats--I'm too lazy to check my tire pressure regularly) and had something like 5 flats in a week. I've been running the gator skins for two continuous years of commuting to work and not a single flat. They've paid for themselves in savings on tubes and peace of mind.
  7. Listen to the Commander. I would add that if there is any way possible, buy your boots from a brick and mortar store that is reputable and has a knowledgeable person for fitting your boots to your foot.
  8. Are you learning to tele or AT? What size is your foot? The more information you provide the more likely you are to get some help.
  9. I was there Sunday and had trouble finding parking and thought about using the nearly empty Taco Bell parking lot but thought better of it. Glad I did after reading the above. There is a sign warning against it on the door of the mountain shop too. Tow truck companies are out of control in Portland. They will routinely cruise various parking lots and tow random cars--they don't even have to be called anymore.
  10. Nice report and welcome to the asylum.
  11. I have a 60csx and am pretty happy with it. It replaced the eTrex vista I had that had been warranty replaced 3 times before I got fed up with the POS and upgraded. I chose the 60csx for a number of reasons that are listed above by robertjoy. In addition, I wanted something with a big enough screen that I could read it in the car or on my motorcycle, that was durable and waterproof and user-friendly. I've used it quiet a bit now and I like it a LOT better than the Vista. The downside is its heavier than the smaller units but its a price I am willing to pay. I got mine for $276 on sale. I don't know anything about the Delorme units.
  12. You need better bait.
  13. They'd have to start a seperate SAR mission just to find your registration in that mess You assume the FS will even have the self-registration forms available. I've been there twice in the last two months where there were no blank forms at all and if the filled out ones were any indication, there had not been any blank forms for quite a while.
  14. Skinning.
  15. I was up there Sunday too. Gorgeous day.
  16. Nice work Wayne--your climbing log is impressive and inspiring.
  17. I thought they werent allowed to charge your credit card until the item shipped?
  18. Trailers have basements?
  19. Thats what I was looking for--thanks.
  20. How long did the traverse take?
  21. I disagree. The missing comma adds clarity (but not much). Frankly, one of the hallmarks of JayB's posts are the run-on sentences. I do find them interesting though when I have the time to parse it out. I have ADD though.
  22. I had the same problem. I got a pair of Marmot Work gloves and my hands are rarely cold or wet in them. If I notice my hands starting to sweat I take them off. I've tried a lot of different gloves. Mittens not so much as those seem to be pretty standard--zero dexterity but plenty warm. The trade-off with gloves is the more insulated the glove the less dexterity you have until you reach a point at which you might as well be wearing mittens. Sizing is a key issue--gloves that are too tight are worse than ones that are too loose as they will restrict blood flow and make it worse. I try and keep two sets of gloves on me, the Marmot Work Gloves when my hands are cold (i.e. first start out) and then a lighter pair after the blood starts flowing and I warm up.
  23. And had been executing their own people for decades.
