  9. Mike, thanks for responding with more thought then I put into my post. I think my remarks were pretty off-base, and I apologize to the people at the park. When I was there last month, I was pretty surprised how much of the upper lot was fenced off, almost all of it from what I recall, with only 20 lined parking spots. Most of the fenced off area didn't appear utilized at all, which kind of was the basis of my stupid comment. A friend of mine was up there today and said that most of the fencing has been removed and the parking situation is all most back to normal. Again, great job to the Park for getting back up to operation after last Nov. storm!

    Cheers!

That and the fixed gear scene isn't nearly as cool up here as it is in P-town.
  11. Is is possible to find a thread by the person who started it? No, not by who started it, it takes into account all posts. I'm not sure if that is a feature we'd be able to provide, but can look into it.
  12. Actually once you know how to use it the search works incredibly well, especially when trying to narrow down a search with a common keyword. Give me an example of what you are trying to do and I can guide you through it.
  13. The current situation sucks, complete lack of foresight by the Park. That said they did a remarkable job getting the Park open after last years devastatio... they deserve a lot of credit for that. It's in our best interest to keep this thread as constructive as possible, because they will read this.

  18. Gitcho Monica on...... Wanted: Interns Alpinist Magazine is now accepting applications for four four-month internships available throughout the year. The interns gain hands-on experience in many aspects of magazine production, doing tasks from gritty to glamorous. Internships are available in several departments: Production of the Alpinist Film Festival, Online Editorial, Production of the Magazine, Advertising and Marketing. Detailed descriptions of these positions can be found on the Alpinist website, http://www.alpinist.com/p//mag/jobs, or in the attached MS Word document. Alpinist is an archival-quality, environmentally minded climbing journal produced by a dedicated group that balances the necessities of business acumen with the spirit of alpinism. Because of Alpinist's small staff, our interns play an important role behind the scenes as well as in the development of every issue. The internship provides an excellent opportunity to experience many facets of magazine publishing in a progressive, cause-oriented environment. The work is unpaid with a 30- to 40-hour workweek. Ideally, the internship would begin each season (May 1, September 1, January 1), with a three- to four-month duration, but some flexibility with schedules can be accommodated. Location is the Alpinist World Headquarters, in Jackson, Wyoming. Thanks in advance. Luke Bauer

    Bonds Indicted!

Now they just need to indict A-rod for being a douche and half of baseballs problems will be solved. The other half, baseball being completely boring to watch, is a much more complex problem to solve.
  20. Well, actually a couple things happened. The most noticeable by far was that my energy levels were more regulated throughout the day, which is an expected result. My capacity for losing weight also went up (I believe), that is I found it much easier to stably lose weight, and let me explain that a bit. My understanding is that one of the consequences of having a diet comprising of a lot of high-glycemic index foods is that, at the molecular level in your body, you basically have less machinery to convert fat into glucose because your body isn't in the business of making things that it doesn't need. So for instance an "average" person might have 1x machinery, a pop-guzzling cube monkey might have .3x, and an elite athlete might have like 5x. Anyways, I basically found that it was easier to lose weight, which I'm sure was in part to my blood sugar not crashing at any given moment.
  21. Wow, great fucking advice. "HEY, here is a SITE with hundreds of THOUSANDS of articles that MOST of which you WON'T understand that you can READ"
  22. There was a time not too long ago where I would probably drink a 2 liter of Coke during the day. I wasn't fat but I certainly wasn't lean, and who knows what damage I've done to my endocrine system. I think that worked out to 200 grams of HFCS a day. So that works out to about 800 calories a day of just sugar. I think the theoretical number I've seen throw around is that you have to reduce your caloric intake 500 cals. a day to lose 1 pound per week. Here is another interesting way to look at it. The averaged size male has approx. 4 liters of blood in his body. Do you know how much sugar (glucose) is in the blood stream? 5 grams total. There is only 46 grams of sugar in the body total. So in one day I'd drink about 5 times amount of sugar that was stored in my body. With the exception of the the occasional cookie or gatoraid I don't consume any sugar. Quiting is hard but can easily be done, and you'll notice that you have a more even energy level throughout the day.
  23. I'm guessing this means "don't take your brake hand off" but it looks like the belayer is striking himself forcefully in a tender spot... DO NOT PRETEND TO BE PLAYING GUITAR HERO WHILE BELAYING!
