  1. Maybe you're already on it, but my ankles got way stronger when i started running and hiking in low drop, pretty minimal footwear. I'm not talking the vibram five fingers stuff, more like Inov-8 295, etc.
  2. I took it. Keep us posted, interested in your idea.
  3. For my body the ascensionist was the best softshell out there. They pop up on ebay now and then but pretty sparse. The closest thing I've found material-wise is Powershield Pro, a la Patagonia Knifeblade. I'd say it's not quite as breathable (but darn close) and slightly better in terms of weather protection. The face fabric is right on in weight and toughness and the arms are cut long. The jacket and pullover seem to be cut a bit different depending on the year. Pata Web Specials has last years for $265, not cheap but man I love mine.
  4. The flash fabric is lighter than the standard microfiber that WM uses on the meltdown. I think the microfiber is a nice weight/durability compromise, but that's me.
  5. I happily use lithiums and won't sweat four ounces on a lamp if it has the features I like. For truly light weight applications I just use one of a few other's I have on hand.
  6. I have the M14's and Latoks--like them both. I use the M14 quite a bit and they have held up well. I use them for warm days on ice and summer alpine climbs. Durability is OK on the Latok, but not amazing on the palms. I personally like eVent, but outdry is legit as well.
  7. For the sake of gear comparison...I've seen quite a few product comparison functions, but this one has a lot more info overall. Here is an example looking at three single wall tents: Gear Buyer comarison. Hope it comes in handy for some people!
  8. I like the Grivel Air Tech Racing for that purpose. Mine is 58cm--makes it a little more versatile for me since I'm 6'2"-3". I've historically paired it with a Matrix light.
  9. Website says PU coated Nylon. It's a whole tent made out of tent floor.
  10. I had that problem w/ the original Myo XP. However, I've had enough issues with Mammut and BD lamps as well that I generally just use the one with features that I like and figure that it'll be expendable. Just my way of looking at it. My current favorite is the Mammut TX-1, but I've got a half dozen others that see duty.
  11. I'd buy it. Aluminum is so very flexible/ductile/soft.
  12. I made one out of a 3' long piece of aluminum stock. I used a grinder to make the "handle", and a drill press w/ a couple different bits to make the teeth. If you make one don't forget to "set" (tweak) the teeth in alternating directions. If you're going to buy one, the one from Brooks Range is nice for $35.
  13. This would be my recommendation; very well made stuff. HMG Ice Or you could go with the HMG Porter if you need a bit more space.
  14. I haven't owned an MK3 but have been in one a few times. In response to your questions...it is super easy to set up, design is excellent--way more comfortable than the Eldorado in my opinion and the venting system is relatively effective. I personally think the MK3 is among the best in it's class.
  15. The Edelrid Kite fits your criteria as well. I've been very happy with my ca. 2010 Edelrid 9.4.
  16. +1 on tape and seam grip.
  17. This might fill your med wt. hoody requirement: Mammut Yukon Tech
  18. The Fast/Light is an awesome pant; I have two pairs and I'll get more if they're still in production when I wear 'em out.
  19. BigSky

    helmet

The Camp Armour is light to moderate weight-wise (340g) while still feeling like a real helmet. Not expensive and there are a few good color options--it's pretty tough to beat for $48 in my opinion.
  20. Rab Vapour Rise Lite Tour gets it done--one of my absolute favorites.
  21. Agree the sarken frontpoints are too long for WI. I'd roll with the Sabretooths and develop your tastes more with that experience.
  22. Hard to find the Thru Hiker anymore since the buyout. Rab Latok Alpine if you're long armed, Westcomb Cruiser or Specter LT if you're not.
  23. The Montane Lite Speed is excellent as well. Montane doesn't get enough love in my opinion. Anyone else had good experiences w/ Montane wind layers?
  24. Not quite $100, but a lot of jacket for $140. It's kind of a tweener at 100g m^2 but could take you into spring and fall conditions with ease.
