  1. It would be for me. I run pretty hot naturally though... My wife purchased a 55deg liner for her 35deg bag because she just couldn't get warm enough in that... I use both (much to her chagrin) now way more than my down bag. Used the 35deg in the open on Granite Peak a few years ago at 12,100 and did ok with clothes on... Used it up on the Eldorado Glacier this year tented with a partner and was real comfy... That 55 deg liner is real light, and should be good for warm nights up high if need be... d
  2. I enjoyed this after action report/TR and comments. Thanks to the OP's for offering it in the spirit they did. I've yet to climb this route, and found the current conditions info very interesting. I also enjoyed the Mt Jefferson story referred to above. It was offered for "the gratuitous enjoyment of any who wish to read it". It wasn't difficult to discern the lessons contained therein, nor was it difficult to assume the OP of that well written, very funny story, was painfully appreciative of those lessons. IMHO no post fact criticism and/or hand wringing was necessary there... Some folks dig that shit, some don't. Apologies to OP for thread drift. d
  3. I am still holding out hope of getting my first up close look at the pickets this season, and definitely looking forward to reading more about this attempted traverse. I really wanted to hold off, and just enjoy the comments of more knowledgeable N Cascades climbers on this... I will say that it is the reverential approach to the alpine experience that I find most inspiring. d
  4. Me too. Don't think I've ever laughed as hard reading a TR on this site, and I've read quite a few... Thanks for taking the time to post up. Glad you made it out ok and hope you heal up fast. Now, I need a drink myself. Never have needed much of an excuse so, here's to ya man. d
  5. The Karate Kid move on the summit is pretty cool. Nice pics. d
  6. Good story, fine pics, and unique wordplay make this TR a fun read. Between the laughter, I experienced a few pangs of regret at our missed opportunity a few years ago on Mt Jefferson... d
  7. Unfortunately, it appears to be true that Artur Hajzer has passed away at 51 years of age. Still, so much climbing ahead of him, but it was not to be... http://www.planetmountain.com/english/News/shownews1.lasso?l=2&keyid=41046 For the record, Artur Hajzer was not Kukuczka's partner when he was killed on the S Face of Lhotse. That was Ryszard Pawlowski. d
  8. Truism: a warm beer, is better than no beer at all... d
  9. This was a fun TR to read, and really enjoyed the pics. Gonna climb this route someday when I grow up... d
  10. Seems like this man should be walking out by now... Keeping a good thought, and hoping for him... d
  11. Hell hath no fury...
  12. Great TR and pics. Really enjoyed it. d
  13. The snaffle in the last pic appears to be glowering at the photographer... Nice TR of a very pleasant outing Nastia. Thanks for sharing. d
  14. Snafflehound!
  15. Sweet!
  16. Sorry about your jacket man. The Elliot ate one of my water bottles last year... It was empty, but I'd still like to have it back. Couldn't talk Anastasia into fetching it for me... She's really nice, but she has her limits... d
  17. Nice work you two! I remember looking down the headwall from the summit ridge after climbing the spur last year and seeing the tracks where you guys topped out. The steepness was very impressive. d
  18. Don't forget the beer chaser!
  19. Nice to be able to get the best of the weather forecasted heading into the weekend Matt. The pics are really cool, thanks for posting. d
  20. <---- Heinz 57... So my old man used to say...
  21. I used to blame my bad temper on being Irish (my mother is Mary Kathleen O'Hayre) until I found out through genetic testing that I am really only about 1/4 Irish and about 3/4 German, so I have no excuse. I dunno, Germans can be pretty ornery... I married a German woman coming up on 38 years ago next month and she's a toughie. I've had occasion to piss her off a time or two and found it quite unpleasant... d
  22. Man, you did have a knack for finding the cracks... Good to see you back posting up on this site. d
  23. That beer idea's lookin' pretty solid... Cheers, d
  24. A long time ago, I made the trip to Muir from Paradise with my 10 year old Son. I knew some people that were making a summit climb and went up just to say hi. We made it but the boy was really tired upon arrival. The worst of it was we both got sunburned which was my fault of course. The best of it was experiencing his exhilaration, and sense of accomplishment on the descent. It was really cool. We both learned some things, lived, and had a good day. He has not followed me in climbing and I'm glad. Especially alpine climbing. It's an inherently dangerous activity. I'm very glad you and your daughter ended up ok after this climb slog. Our good instincts, and discipline, are important to our survival whether in the mountains or not. d
  25. Next time we climb in the N Cascades, hope we have better views, but I'm not complaining, this climb was a lot of fun and a good workout. Thanks to a great partner, and the other folks on the mountain. Great boot braid to follow most of the way up the glacier due to our late start and great cooperation on the summit ridge by all. d
