  1. Nice Tr and pics. Thanks for posting. The upper W Ridge looks pretty dry, the lower not so much... Am thinking about a trip out to the W Ridge this weekend but the weather looks to be pretty bad so I'll probably just stay home and drink beer. d
  2. What a great accomplishment! Time to celebrate with a little Invictus: Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.
  3. What poor luck. Very sad.
  4. When we descended the old chute last year it didn't seem like it was 50 deg. We walked down it unroped ok. I've never been great at grades and such but it seemed like it was 35 - 40 deg. Same as the Pearly Gates like Ivan said. The sketchiest part of it all was the people surrounding us and an extremely slow group below that held everyone up and kept the rest of us bunched up and waiting an awfully long time... There was one person, obviously gripped, trying some sort of backward belly roll feet first thing that scared the shit out of us watching... I hope someone slaps me hard if I ever suggest a S Side descent on Hood again...
  5. Well said Jason. d
  6. There's a good pic looking down the Old Chute in the Oregon Cascades forum from last weekend. For reference, the caption is appropriately: "clusterfuckery"... http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1104417/Re_TR_Hood_Leuthold_5_12_2013#Post1104417 d
  7. Climbed the dogs head route in Nov '79 and what is left of that fine mountain 4 times since. I would consider helping you if you aquiesced to Waters request... The man has a point... d
  8. Tom, I really enjoyed reading this TR. The pictures are great too, The piece, in it's entirety, will leave the reader, climber or non climber, with a very clear impression of what a truly remarkable accomplishment this was. I will re read it when I have a bit more time and will, I am sure, enjoy it again thoroughly. I hope to visit a couple of these summits this climbing season. Thanks for the inspiration! d
  9. EBC trek cost me about $2500 USD in '04. That's RT from my house in Spokane... Points for air fare of course. You don't have to be rich to enjoy Nepal. A bit of thought, and networking gets it done. Climbing Everest, using guides to lead you up with a nose ring, and a baby bottle (02's), is expensive, yes... Tough to tell on these deals, as happened @ camp 2, where the main fault lies with all the after action he said she said stuff but it appears to me that the Sherpas are getting pretty tired of Westerners having their way with the mountain, and perhaps in the process, not showing the proper respect for said mountain, and Sherpa culture... Having said that there is no excuse for the physical violence that occurred. Does send a message tho don't it? d
  10. 69 huh, damn... Sounds about right as I recall he's about 10 yrs my senior. Man, I gotta call him & say hello... d
  11. pm'd ya
  12. All for $15m USD as I recall. A pretty good deal... Looks like a really fun trip Nastia. The pics are really cool. Thanks for posting. d
  13. We ran into three guys on snowshoes with giant packs coming down the road when we were still at the cars (@ MP 17), that wasn't you? Nope, I was solo and my pack was just under 40lb. "Fairly full", not gigantic.
  14. Thanks for posting the TR. Some very nice pics there too. Looks like I just missed you guys on my hike. I thought I'd heard voices at one point, but attributed it to possible hallucinatory affects of a 12 mile snow shoe with a fairly full pack... d
  15. Looking pretty fresh on the summit Oleg! d
  16. All I know is I drove by the TH sign last spring on my way up to the cascade parking lot to climb Sahale. That was my first time in there. Guess I can find my way back there, mosey on up and have a look around. Thanks, d
  17. Jason, maybe you guys can shovel it out to the Eldo TH while ur up there cutting... So this old man wouldn't have such an arduous hike to get started... Thanks! d
  18. Thinking about a day run up Eldorado Wed or Thurs next week. Wondering how the old Subaru wagon will fare to the TH... d
  19. PM sent
  20. pm sent.
  21. Not too late to throw that last (very cool) pic in the photo contest is it? Would make a nice alpine and/or scenic entry imo. What do you think Nastia? d
  22. Man, that's terrible. I hate thieves. I've been looking for "deals" online for gear lately and will keep an eye out for your stuff. d
  23. The TR, Pics, & brevity are much appreciated. d
