It works now. I see you've been to the PlaidMan school of fine videography, too.

[TR] Lookie Lou at the Reid Headwall - Mt Hood - R
denalidave replied to Plaidman's topic in Oregon Cascades
Whuhh he said-on the money....hey, I was just thinking of this the other day. Once, when rock climbing - I made mention of the voluminous mass of crap gear you were carrying. Man, you had extra slings, biners, rappel rings, all kinds of other unnecessary fliff flaff hanging on your waist. You assured me that it was all practical and good, training: in fact necessary in the event of an emergency etc etc. Yet I was wondering just the other day....on the 28 hours to do Snake Dike...how much crap stuff were you carrying? Did you in fact blow off my advice, then pay the price for ignoring me, but we haven't caught up to this idea yet??? Uh, Bill, how in hell is he going to do a 13 hour ascent of the corner unless he has WAY too much crap? It's all part of the SKAT (slowest known ascent time) strategy. You should have seen the body bag of gear he had last night rapping into the ledge. A friggin tent, for crying out loud. -
I'd love to connect sometime once the weather gets bad....I can only belay to 5.10 these days however...... That looks a lot like Ivan except this dude is free climbing and not hanging on gear....HUH?

Colder today but no wind. Who's heading out?

Mountain Soles used to be based in Trout Lake, and the guy did awesome work. I think he sold the business to the folks who run it in Portland now. I had a pair done a few years ago and the toe tips delaminated almost immediately. Still, that was awhile ago and they may have gotten better. I think the comments about Dave Page & Ramuta point up the importance of the cobbler actually doing the work. Dave Page has a larger outfit, so you don't know who will be the hands on person. I've heard the same story from the Rubber Room in Bishop with the same result: variable quality, from totally awesome to hideous. The advantage to Ramuta is that he's a one man operation, you know who's going to do the repair. Yes, Bill McKinney used to own Mt Soles and ran it out of Trout Lake. He sold the business about 10 years ago.

Or rap slings?

You must be one of those uptight city folk I was referring to. I'm the dude in boxers with a beer yelling obscenities at everyone Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

I can just see it Bill... So, what is the standard etiquette for being a good neighbor in these leaf fall-outs? I was raking leaves from my yard the other day and reaching over to my neighbors yard and pulling them back into my yard. (We need the leaves for composting our new raised beds.) The leaves are falling off my tree and most of them blow into his backyard. We have no fence between the lots so I can easily rake his leaves up too. I did not want to rake his whole yard without his permission though and they have been out of town for a week or so. You'd think they would not look a gift horse in the mouth but you never know. It became a mute point when my rake broke and I decided to go climb instead wasting my time raking the neighbors yard. I'd guess the protocol, if there were to be any, would vary a lot by geography. Seems all you city folk get uptight much quicker than those out in the sticks. Then again, plenty of whacko red-necks in the sticks, too.

3) Retain the best lawyer available for the "hate crime" charges that will surely follow...

I found the best way to avoid boulder boredom is not to boulder, as it is boring.

Guess it's Ivan's then...

Shit man I'm all about training and working hard and making lifestyle sacrifices to get better but giving up eating and drinking beer just to get another letter grade, that's just geh. (try a route at your rp limit with a 15 pound squash sticking outta yer ass). Yes, I've found the hard part (along with the extra weight) is keeping the squash from shooting out of my ass and down onto my belayer. Best to wrap it in velcro and then staple the other side of the velcro to your ass. This technique seems to work best for me, at least out of all the ones I've tried at the crags.

Uh, there is no MART in Target. DUH!

Funny you mention kmart, as I'm sure they feel very slighted by this whole thread. Why isn't JDJR, or anyone, for that matter, standing up here for the values that kmart, buymart, minimart, quickiemart and the rest of the capitalist pig sector offer? I see a great deal here... kmart tent package dealio. Yes, you will pay a few dollars more than the JDJR MalWart version. But, this is not only functionally similar to the HBerg tent, but it is also free-standing and comes with the extra gear you will need for your next Cascades outing. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE? WE NEED EQUAL REPRESENTATION, not just for MalWart.
-
dude, why waste the time and money on that swedish shit, when you can get a $3 Chuck or a bottle of Nightrain, which is functionally similar... But, do they sell it at MalWart?
