  1. I frequently fly from Seattle to Vegas (on Southwest) and always check my bags of gear, rope, etc(Southwest lets you check two bags for FREE) so I don't have to schlep them through the airport or get weird looks at security. Never had a problem with damaged or confiscated gear doing it this way, but there is a TSA security note in my bag after every flight, without exception, saying it has been searched. In my carry-on, I pack a spring-loaded tea-strainer that almost always buys me extra scrutiny there. Apparently it looks like a flint lighter or some other incendiary device in the xray. I think I'd have an easier time explaining a gri gri to them.
  2. Lovin' the pre-spring TR's trickling in...thanks for the Leavenworth stoke!
  3. Guilty as charged. Bring on the rock!
  4. Thanks, guys. I'm smiling just thinking about those climbs.
  5. I've got a long ticklist, Argus, but a couple near the top of it would be Dark Shadows, Black Dagger, Purblind Pillar, Beualah's ....anything along those lines depending on whether we're chasing sun or shade. If there's a particular route which would persuade you to sneak out of work, I'm open to suggestion. I still owe you for salvaging and carrying all of my ropes last time. :kisss:
  6. Anyone going to be in town and interested in spending a couple sunny days climbing moderste trad? I'll be there with gear, rope, and own transport. Just missing somebody to hold the other end of the rope.

    My boy

Sounds like all that practice on City Park paid off. Congrats!
  8. Dude?!
  9. Awesome! I want a magic hat.
  10. Once you turn onto Eaglemount from Hwy 20, it's about a half mile down the road, just past Grouse Lane on the left.
  11. A little OT, but has anyone noticed the rock ridge alongside Eaglemount Rd which has been exposed by recent logging? Could be some potential there if access is kosher. Easy to spot from the road.
  12. As in "bumping" the topic back to the top of the "Active Topics" page so it doesn't get buried by threads with more recent posts.
  13. So jealous!!!! Those photos make me *almost* feel like I was there jamming that beautiful crack, too. Sigh. Awesome climbing and pics, Marc. Thanks for the Squish stoke!
  14. Way to keep after it, boys!
  15. an aunt who was a second mom to me just passed away christmas day. Aw, man, Rudy...so sorry to hear about your dear Aunt. That had to be a hard hit, losing someone so special and on Christmas day to boot. Those of us who have been lucky enough to have "second moms" can especially understand the heartbreak. All moms are a gift. Hugs to ya, pal. :kisss:
  16. she may check this site out then ride with gps only a true science dork would get so organized with their fitness, or someone who works for a government agency... wait a minute - nevermind! LOL, Kenny, but she's none of the above. Just a gadget-junkie who likes to bike. JustinP, that's a neat site. I think it's like the "Training Center" site where the Garmin downloads its ride data. All too techy for me, but I can see where some would find it motivating or at least interesting.
  17. Cool. Looks like spectacular scenery.
  18. I got her a Garmin GPS computer thingy for her road bike. It records speed, time, distance, elevation, cadence, and calories, and it maps our ride.

    olyclimber

I heard he got poisoned by a barista.
  20. That's awesome. Well done, Plaid!
  21. Climbed my first 5.10a multipitch in Red Rocks(Black Orpheus) Finally led G-M in Index without falling. Got my first pair of bifocals.( )
  22. Great story! Sounds like that climb/descent has been the perfect recipe for an adventure for many a climber. My partner down there often talks about the pre-headlamp days. She said flashlights were too heavy back then so they learned to navigate by boulders and other natural landmarks. We're spoiled now, in comparison, with all the trails, headlamps, guidebooks...
  23. Wow, Dave! THAT would have made a great story. I think bailing off that thing would be almost harder than continuing. I didn't take my camera because I knew we'd be pushing the clock and didn't want to slow us down with photo moments. Moving efficiently is paramount on those longer routes, I'm learning.(apparently I need more practice... ) That crux sequence was sweet; reminded me of a move from "The Zip" in Squamish. Perfect finger lock. The exit from that 5.7 lieback was bizarre, eh? You can tell she's not married from a shoe? OMG, that there is some mad tracking skillz. I need to hang with you dude and learnz all of dis!!! ps, I really like the way the grain of the rocks in Sherris mural runs, it nicely duplicates and reminds us of that colored grain flow effect that you see out there in the Red Rocks all the time. Thanks, Bill. :kisss: Sweet of you to appreciate the fine details in the woodwork and link the post. The "red" wood is high-grade cherry from a yacht-maker's scraps and the lighter wood is cedar from our property here. I was lucky to have some nice grains with which to work. Oh, and it wasn't my approach shoe. I'm not single.
