The other problem is that cold weather means heated interiors, which are typically very dry. This dries out the inside of my nose, and I end up peeling off mucus membrane with the boogers. The resulting blood clots just makes things worse.

You can siphon this gas from your car's tank and put it in a nalgene. Gawd, another newbie assclown. The proper climbing protocol is to siphon gas from the tank of the vehicle *next* to you at the TH. Especially that stupid shiny SUV. Prepared climbers keep a small prybar to pop open the gas lid. It's stupid to steal your own gas, as you would hate to run out on the drive home.

I'll disagree with this. This may be true for the "hard-core" climbers, but there are a large number of folks (think the often derided Mounties stereotype) who are just looking for a nice day in the mountains. Everyone knows that there is risk in climbing, as there is in any activity, but not everyone out climbing is looking for 'danger'. Also note that the folks who place the bolts 5 feet apart at Vantage are also trying to make climbing 'safe'.

To be honest, no. There are billions of people who have very inexpensive material needs that would greatly improve their lives. People in this country have tremendous resources, but yet aid agency beg for money. I'm not of the "use every available resource to keep this person alive one more second" camp either. Hey, if I'm looking pretty bad, pull the plug. Use the money for a party to celebrate life.
