  1. dude....add ten to both and I'm with you
  2. Anybody here been to the Park Pub on Phinney Ridge??? cool little place - great, eclectic beer selection, great pub food, and laid back crowd.
  3. Quite true, but the self denial of required for weight loss is not nearly as fun as dropping $ on shiny new gear.
  4. Qualifier.....not a medical type whatsoever, but for muscle knots, I'm a big fan of the foam roller - "self myofacial release" - cheaper than PT and easy to do at home i.e. frequently. By a foam tube, throw it on the floor, and roll back and forth over the knot. I used it with great success with my IT bands. I use it on my upper/lower back, hammys, calves, hip flexors....etc.
  5. Have you tried turns-all-year.com? - it's a B/C ski dedicated site, and you might get some beta there.

  7. that's stupid....what a waste of time
  8. I've got Shuksans, Dynafits, and Garmont dynamite (3-buckle) version of the Megaride.....love it. The lighter boots (Dynamite, Dynafit) are a bit more comfortable for touring, but sacrifice downhill performance. Sounds like a good set-up for 50/50

I've got the WM bag as well and like it....my only complaint is I have broad shoulders, and it's very snug. Montbell has a stretch down hugger line that looks to be a bit heavier at equivalent ratings, but I think their rating system is based on the comfort rating vs. extreme that some are. I have a light synthetic bag in this line, and the stretch makes it more comfortable than my WM. Last I checked Jim Nelson had a decent selection of both down and synthetic at his shop.
  10. Agreed on their limitations, and wouldn't recommend them for mixed routes, but there are many Cacade alpine routes that involve crossing a small ~ inactive glacier/snowfield to get to the rock/route for which the aluminum options work quite well. Dragontail, Stuart, Forbidden, Black Peak, Vesper......to name a few. For many of these routes, the weight savings has a huge relative benefit for climbing relative to the possibility of a crevasse fall. Oftentimes, the the ice axe is just a necessary precaution to arrest a fall on the approach/decent and might never come off the pack. FWIW I have steel and aluminum versions of both.
  11. To qualify....I'm not a minimalist per se, but like to spend money on nice light gear. Rather than make recommendations on what to or not to bring, here's some areas of opportunity that I've found. Save ~ 1 lb. - Western Mountaineering Highlight Bag - 16oz and plenty warm for fair weather cascade summer. Save ~ 1 lb - Montbell or equiv 7oz ultralight bivy vs. heavier 3ply bivvys (less durable and smaller) Save ~ 1 lb - If you need crampons, alumimum vs. steel...fine for basic glacier travel/steep snow Save ~ 1 lb - Camp XLA aluminum axe (10oz) vs. steel head....fine for basic glacier travel/steep snow If you really want to cook, you can get a fuel/pot/stove for a total of one pound - MSR pocket rocket/titan kettle Slings - skinny dynnema 1/4 weight and bulk of nylon. Biners.....swap out the old 50g. ones with ~ 30g Trango Superflys - almost an ounce per biner will add up If you want a pad....get a 3/4 length egg crate evazote pad from gossamer gear - only 7 oz, ~ 1/2 lb less than ridgerest foam For a little extra warmth, Montbell Thermawrap UL coat (9oz) Much lighter/compressible than fleece equivalent and it's synthetic. Rope - you can save ~ 2# or more by replacing your 10.5mm rope with one of the new 8.9 - 9.0mm single ropes. If you need a waterproof layer with you to feel good, don't haul your old heavy 3-ply Goretex with you....there are a lot of waterproof breathable shell coats now that are 1/2 the weight of the older generations.
  12. Paid $350 for some after I aggravated my arch running trails. My podiatrist gave me a pretty agressive correction. I've noticed that my arch doesn't bother me, but my low back would start to get pretty wacked out. Quit wearing them, switched back the Sole brand I had in my climbing boots, and back has settled down some, with no arch issues to speak. Haven't tried logging any miles running though. I'm seeing a rehab medicine doc Monday and will bring in the orthotics and see what he thinks. May or may not try them again, or I may take them back to the Podiatrist and have him level them a bit.
  13. One (perhaps small) benefit of the comforts is that with the hollow heel post, you can insert your pole into it and rotate the turret for different touring inclinations with out stooping down. Again, perhaps not worth the weight differential, but I find it a nice feature.
  14. In the "news"......crooksandliars.com??? Even Rosie and Donald made CNN.com. I'm sure the 25% was in a survey quoted from either "crooksandliars.com" or similar reliable unbiased newssource.
  15. Probly the some of the same people who call for a "ban on winter climbing". Maybe some of the same people who call for congressional investigation into why James Kim was "allowed" to drive down a mountain logging road in a snowstorm and nearly kill his family. Maybe the same people who voted for Bush and Cheney. And maybe the same people who think global warming is a myth or will actually be a good thing. In other words, unfortunately, anywhere from 1/4 to over 1/2 of the American people probably care -or worse yet *believe*- what this demented cult leader has to say. If not him, then some other demented cult leader. Wonder if "God" brought up that little bit about Patty callin for the assassination of the president of Venezuela? Seems like maybe "God" would choose a more worthy vehicle for his messages to be conveyed. Of coarse, it could be that "God" really IS an old white man with a long beard who only speaks english to a few chosen, rich, rightwing, cult leaders, enjoys destroying shit and generally bringing extreme suffering upon the masses. Also, I wonder what's being neglected around the rest of the universe while "God" is so busy talking to Pat or causing earthquakes, terrorist attacks and other havoc on this one single, pissy, little insignificant shit of a planet. Coarse, he ("God") prolly gots like Superman or Spidey man powers or somethin. Scotty, dude, beam me out'a here.. If by 1/4 to 1/2, you are insinuating that all Christians, or even all evangelicals look up to him for spiritual direction, all I can say is that you are flat out wrong. I know a lot more "evangelicals" than you do, I'd wager, and almost without exception they/we think he's a nut job. If making/believing in these broad generalizations makes the complex world easier for your simple intellect to grasp, more power to you. I'm sure you have more important things to spend your time on than exploring and researching your beliefs and prejudices.
  16. yep, and Ahmadinejad says the holocaust never happened....who cares what these nut jobs think?

    Question!

Yikes....5...you win. My previous record was friend of my wife's in Berkeley.....3. "Booba" was the code word. While you got me on age, consider that her and her hippieish friend used to babysit for each other. Let's just say that it's weird enough seeing a woman breastfeeding a 3-year-old, but this is one timeshare arrangement you don't want to hear about.

    Question!

All we can ask at this point is that you keep it off Youtube. The pitbull footage would likely get it nixed anyways. PETA would be on it like white on rice
