there have been many corporations that the management actually gets along with the employees, and they work together (i.e Southwest Airlines). Novel concept, eh? Attitudes like that just increase the riff. After the engineers at Boeing went on strike a few years back, Boeing management got back at them. When they started working again, the management slowly worked to make sure that they could deliver planes without engineers, taking much of the engineers negotiating power away. before the strike, engineers needed to sign off many requests to get an airplane out the door. Now, management has the authority to step in when engineering is not around...

gas prices keep going up. toyota sells more hybrids, but in the end, SUVs are still selling like hotcakes. It's going to take a bit more than $3 gas to get people to wake up. Regarding drilling oil, it is actually becoming cost effective to go back to the abandoned oil fields to suck the last bits out. Small oil companies are making a killing by buying up the 'dry' fields from the big oil companies, then they apply better technology to get a hell of a lot more oil out. It's going to be a long while before the oil dries up...

even though the cam portion looks small, the rest of it looks a bit bulky. it might just be all that plastic being used to protect parts, but it appears to be more complicated than a metolius/dmm style TCU, or even an alien.

so, now that Bush has come out and taken responsibility for the slow response to Katrina, I bet that he will put emergency preparedness close to the top of his agenda and will push to get billions of dollars passed to put a new agency in effect, or beef up FEMA, or whatever. However, these dollars will go nowhere. Not to help anyone or to get us prepared for the next disaster. They will just go down into a beaurocratic hole, or into passing a new law that will make us all safer from disasters (just like the Patriot Act). All the while congress will just nod their heads and say yes something has to be done, and pass the request for money. Kneejerk reactions suck. Someone needs to sit down and evaluate all of this before they go and spend all of our money doing something inefficiently that we really don't need. OK, now that I have said that you can all go about your day.
