i would predict that these devices, if widely adopted, would reduce rescue costs, as well as reduce unnecessary rescues. Rescues could be carried out with smaller teams and greater efficiency. The total # of rescues called out amongst users might increase slightly, but I think the benefits outweigh the costs.

you obviously never saw water world

i thought these basically were PLBs, but with a different business model. Instead of dropping $500-$600 up front, you pay $150 +$100/month. I like the fact you can send non emergency messages.

What should I climb this winter?
TrogdortheBurninator replied to Dannible's topic in Ice Climbing Forum
NY Gully on Mt Snoqualmie goes at the grade you listed, and is an excellent climb. Any of the winter climbs in nelson V1 or 2 should also be good. Otherwise, look at the last few years of NWMJ as a number of great looking lines have been put up. -

i have the 4s and love em. The front point design really offers the best of both worlds (mono/dual). They are heavy, but that seems to make them climb better. Also, the antibotts work exceptionally well for a rigid crampon. THe asym shape definitely lends itself to a more modern ice boot, otherwise your heel will be hanging off at a weird angle. Definitely try them on your boots before you buy. It they fit, I can't imagaine a better crampon for pure water ice / mixed.

my guess is that there is some unaesthetic transition from the shaft to the sheet metal mounting area, so they just mask it with scrunchy thing.

All the tools in their new line up have the monster style heads (i.e. integrated pick/head/hammer) This makes replacement picks heavier and more expensive. The upshot is that these picks (at least those on the x monster) are super burly.

i beleive the tickets mentioned in the link and this thread are one and the same.

Does this mean the heel is reasonably healed? If so, congrats!!!!! -
Ahh, another installment of my favorite soap opera. Today's episode is just like every other episode: "Secret" crag revealed/discussed, drama ensues, Kevbone confused

Vacation lodging in the North Cascades (winter)?
TrogdortheBurninator replied to Chad_A's topic in North Cascades
Stayed here once some years back, and it was very nice. Down side is you will still need to drive 20 min or so for most activities. http://www.theinnatmtbaker.com/ -

Is there a recommendation for a Digi Video/ still?
TrogdortheBurninator replied to Bug's topic in The Gear Critic
i havent looked much at whats new. i am very happy with the stills and reasonably happy with the video on my casio ex-z750. I have noticed a fair amount of flickering though in videos with bright light. There are probably newer cameras the remedy the video problems and provide good to excellent stills. I really like the canons, but last I looked, over a year ago, they weren't doing mpeg4 video. that might have changed now. I mostly only ever looked at the ultracompacts becuase they are so convenient for climbing. -
south face prusik and split pillar questions
TrogdortheBurninator replied to skibum1087's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
The wide flare on prusik is mostly protected by smaller gear. A #5 C4 does come in handy on the first pitch (wideish 5.8) and in a few other places. -
Chair Peak North Face direct - A new route?
TrogdortheBurninator replied to martin's topic in Alpine Lakes
Looks like an enjoyable route. Martin's TR spells out where their route is relative to the classic NF route: "So we hiked up into the Chair Peak basin, switched over onto the North side, walked passed the classic North Face route for maybe 200 meters to the intended route entrance" -
Is there a recommendation for a Digi Video/ still?
TrogdortheBurninator replied to Bug's topic in The Gear Critic
The current generation digi stills with MPEG4 capability take remarkably high quality videos (640x480 24FPS). The downsides though are typically significant lens noise (from focusing), and sometimes limited zoom control during filming. Search the digicam forums for one with good video, as I'd suspect you will find the still on most of these cameras quite adequate. -
You need a fish and wildlife permit. You should be able to get it at fred meyer, big 5, and maybe the small store in tieton on the drive in. You dont need an actual fishing license, just hte decal. It think it is ~$5, but I might be wrong (I buy an actual fishing license). This is the same permit as for vantage. Dog's are allowed AFAIK, just watch out for snakes.

I thought Inca Roads was more sustained, and overall more challenging than godzilla. YMMV

Rails $48 W/free shipping
TrogdortheBurninator replied to arabinnite's topic in On-Line/Mail-Order Gear Shops
Sure is cool to pretend it isnt your own site you are promoting. EDIT: BTW, you can walk in to your local bestbuy and walk out with the TOMTOM One for $5 more. Or shop around online and get one for $40 less.
