  1. my guess is that there is some unaesthetic transition from the shaft to the sheet metal mounting area, so they just mask it with scrunchy thing.
  2. All the tools in their new line up have the monster style heads (i.e. integrated pick/head/hammer) This makes replacement picks heavier and more expensive. The upshot is that these picks (at least those on the x monster) are super burly.
  3. i beleive the tickets mentioned in the link and this thread are one and the same.
  4. Ahh, another installment of my favorite soap opera. Today's episode is just like every other episode: "Secret" crag revealed/discussed, drama ensues, Kevbone confused
  5. wow blake, that sucks!
  6. Stayed here once some years back, and it was very nice. Down side is you will still need to drive 20 min or so for most activities. http://www.theinnatmtbaker.com/
  7. i like em. clip solid to a harness with less wobble than a nalgene. a bit lighter too maybe (no data for this)
  8. i havent looked much at whats new. i am very happy with the stills and reasonably happy with the video on my casio ex-z750. I have noticed a fair amount of flickering though in videos with bright light. There are probably newer cameras the remedy the video problems and provide good to excellent stills. I really like the canons, but last I looked, over a year ago, they weren't doing mpeg4 video. that might have changed now. I mostly only ever looked at the ultracompacts becuase they are so convenient for climbing.
  9. The wide flare on prusik is mostly protected by smaller gear. A #5 C4 does come in handy on the first pitch (wideish 5.8) and in a few other places.
  10. Looks like an enjoyable route. Martin's TR spells out where their route is relative to the classic NF route: "So we hiked up into the Chair Peak basin, switched over onto the North side, walked passed the classic North Face route for maybe 200 meters to the intended route entrance"
  11. The current generation digi stills with MPEG4 capability take remarkably high quality videos (640x480 24FPS). The downsides though are typically significant lens noise (from focusing), and sometimes limited zoom control during filming. Search the digicam forums for one with good video, as I'd suspect you will find the still on most of these cameras quite adequate.
  12. You need a fish and wildlife permit. You should be able to get it at fred meyer, big 5, and maybe the small store in tieton on the drive in. You dont need an actual fishing license, just hte decal. It think it is ~$5, but I might be wrong (I buy an actual fishing license). This is the same permit as for vantage. Dog's are allowed AFAIK, just watch out for snakes.
  13. I thought Inca Roads was more sustained, and overall more challenging than godzilla. YMMV
  14. Sure is cool to pretend it isnt your own site you are promoting. EDIT: BTW, you can walk in to your local bestbuy and walk out with the TOMTOM One for $5 more. Or shop around online and get one for $40 less.
  15. looks like a blast!! Aren't rockies alpine grades supposed to be sandbagged?
  16. The cascadian couloir is the most popular scramble route and also the most common descent. It is mostly a scree gully this time of year.
  17. Amazing photos. Especially the 4th one!
  18. I was one of the youngsters you guys met up there. Nice to meet you guys. Thanks for the approach beta saturday morning. What an amazingly fun route! Jared and I were lucky enough to enjoy mucho relaxing time on the ridge on one of the most beautiful days I've spent in the hills.
  19. went climbing: but the views sucked so we watched tv instead:
  20. Awesome Gary. That photo in the rain is one of the cooler climbing photos I've ever seen on this site.
  21. I believe the trail next to the fridge boulder was established in an amicable fashion with the land owner. I think it says climb at your own risk. It has been a while though.
  22. Damn. You definitely don't deserve this after the year you've had. Hopefully things heal up in record time.
  23. Are you guys in the same class?
  24. do you know where poison ivy crack is? just wander up above that for 5 minutes and you'll be at planet of the 8s.
