  1. I sort of like to be able to climb anything and not have to choose my ascent routes, so I just bring along a gas-powered generator, several hundred feet of extension cord, and a hammer drill, and leave all that finicky trad gear at home.
  2. rocky butte = portland's yosemite!
  3. Jay & Carl, both of you might be interested in reading Michael Pollan's "The Omnivore's Dillemma" - he does a really good job of examining "organic" and "conventional" modes of food production.

  10. bill, you mean the hb ascenders? I'm not looking for ascenders but if I was I'd consider taking advantage of that price. I've got a pair of the petzels which seem to work pretty well.

  13. sounds like someone's not ready for "web 2.0"
  14. yeah, not being a very good climber myself, and not having much opportunity to skip bolts ever, I just want to say "thanks" to whoever put that bolt in on the class 3 section of that route, 'cause now even I can feel like a hardman when I saunter past it... seriously, though, I didn't even see it the one time I was up there. I think it must not be super obvious?

"money jungle" with charlie mingus and duke ellington is a great album. "max & diz paris 1989" with dizzy gillespie is excellent too.
  16. yeah, Bill, I appreciate it too.
  17. in the middle of critical mass oh c'mon, it's almost like you're saying people get dumber when they're part of a mob!
  18. i should have recognized that cool looking rock at the top of phone call. hemp's picture looks like some of our native volcanic material to me, not granite. I'm guessing it's in oregon...somewhere with a closely-spaced-bolt ethic
  19. edited: not worth saying twice
  20. no, I think I'll just let my tautology stand.
  21. what's the stupidest place to ride bikes in washington?
  22. red wall, some variation of ho chi minh trail?
  23. the stupidest place to climb in washington is the one that's the most dumb.
