[TR] Smith Rocks - Monkey Face/Zebra Zion/etc 3/11
olyclimber replied to olyclimber's topic in Oregon Cascades
Pretty crazy that this weekend nearly killed me (probably the closest I've come to death). It mid-week that I ended up in the ER minutes from dying, moved to the top of the triage, immediate kidney dialysis because of kidney failure do to a tiny scratch in my elbow that resulted in a sepsis infection and a month in ICU and whole lotta of morphine. And you people here at cc.com had my back and supported me all the way through. -
I know I should saved all those voicemails he left me! And I only climbed with him one time! But once he got your number or knew you had info or some connection…..

New to Climbing in PNW - Lots of questions
olyclimber replied to Mark Edmonds's topic in Climber's Board
With Rainier via any route you'll likely have to contend with crevasses. If you don't have any experience doing crevasse rescue then you'll want to take a course or find someone to practice rescue with, and become competent. -
For sure. If it doesn’t happen this time I’ll make an executive decision for it to happen up there next month. Though I won’t have the time to get to that one via bicycle.

So far Roanoke Tavern is winning, but only 4 votes total. Lets go people! KEEP PUBCLUB ALIVE!

Not much to say other than that its all my fault for expecting more out of people. In the end it is my fault for doing so. Basically board was down for almost two hours today. I ended up fixing it myself, but only after a fiasco with a person who does support for this software. The bike ride totally cleared my head and I don't want to revisit it right now lol. But things are back and I learned a bunch via 🔥 and by punching big red buttons that say "do not press".

Sorry for the downtime. I'm kind of in a rage right now and I need to go take it out on a bike ride.

Hi Admin,I wanted to introduce myself in a way that shows I’m interesting, witty and clever. Alas, I wrote this email instead.I come bearing just what you’ve always wanted, another pitch! I’ll get this over as quickly as possible. Are you accepting link insertions in old blog posts on your website? If yes, how much would you charge for this?If not, will you be interested in a 3-way link exchange that can help boost your website ranking?Consider my fingers, toes and all appendages crossed!Cheers,Landry CruzWrwint

So I'm pivoting on how I'm going to restore the Trip Report Search function. Sorry it is taking so long. I just decided that I'm no longer going to try to get it to work as it was (because the way it was set up was not ideal for several reasons) but instead I'm going to be doing a rewrite so that is better set up for the future and also so that we can enhance it to make it better. I'm having a friend of mine help with that, so some of the money you all have been sending in is going to go to him he is a super valuable resource to me and will be worth every penny...but at the same time he won't charge too much and views the whole thing as a challenge (he is retired). For now you can use Google, and forum member and sponsor (thank you Geoff!!!) @Geoff M documented this handy method of using Google to search our site for whatever it is you're looking for (put this into Google Search: Of course our model is to dump any reliance on big corporate internet companies as much as possible, so TR Search remains the top priority, but we just went to put it together right and have just started down that road.

auction Photo Auction to Benefit CascadeClimbers!
olyclimber replied to JasonG's topic in Climber's Board
Ok I'll bid on the McMillian Spires photo. $175. I've had things framed before, so I know these prices are starting low.... -
For someone just starting out who is obsessed with the mountains...sounds like it could be a dream job.

Ha...there is a thread on Backpackinglight.com where @Kili2016 (and others) have posted as well (mostly negative posts it appears from a quick perusal, with a few positive or at least not negative sprinkled in). Not saying anything about Bear Paw...no experience with them. The truth is usually some details are left out (but not always), so again, no idea. It does appear that @Kili2016 has copy and pasted his rant above there and here, and who knows where else.

Going to be closing down suggestions and creating a poll soon!

I ended up with around 200 miles of trail and back country, and around 56,000 ft of elevation gain from a few more than 12 peak scrambles I did with the dog this year! Looking forward to doing more in 2023....I know some of you probably log way more than this, but considering all the other things I was able to do this year (I started cycling a lot in August, I think I put 1800 miles on the bikes). Was a good year!
