  1. I liked the Osprey hipbelts as well. The new women's sleeping pad from Cascade Designs is sure to be a hit with men and women alike, and to boot, it's pink! Lots of stuff being made out of eVENT, more refinements to get weight down here and there. I didn't see a drinky bottle in the shape of Jessica Simpson but there was a nice Tiki Head one there. Schwagwise I got an autographed poster from Timmy O'Neill to add to the bathroom collection, a really cute Cloudveil T-shirt, and the new Mountaineers Books/AAC history of mountaineering book, which is really nice. My favorite thing that I got (don't laugh) is the orange Nalgene bottle from Katadyn. I know, silly. Rest of the goodies are more work-related. Wish I'd had time to look at climbing gear, but I hadda stay focused on what I was there to look at and didn't have any extra time.
  2. Murraysovereign just suggested to me that we have a Salt Lake Pub Club next show. Sound like fun?
  3. Besides the new MSR Cap Stove, anyone see anything of particular interest at the Summer OR show?
  4. I find Thorlo socks to stay wet a whole lot longer!
  5. Never a problem with Smartwool. If you like wool, you might also try Dahlgren socks.
  6. If you can afford it, you might check out this guiding service. I took a basic avy course from them last year and can't say enough about the quality of the experience.
  7. Try Firefox. It's not half bad. I still want FF to remember what tabs I had open from my last browsing session. Someone said there was a plug-in for it to do that, but I'd have no idea where to DL it from. Any suggestionz?
  8. Burn all the fuel out of them, puncture, throw in the recycle. No one's going to tell you that officially because they don't want to get sued if you screw up, but that's the way to do it, perfectly acceptable to the recycling peeps.
  9. I have one of those GG silnylon compression sacks, been using it for months....bomber. I'm pretty sure Pro Mountain Sprots has them.
  10. Hello tow-headed Chinaman! One time I was talking to a kid about my job, about how sometimes I work with famous people, and this kid asked me if I ever worked with Shakespeare. Hm, maybe the job really is aging me prematurely.... Thank you for allowing stagehand to post.
  11. Not no mo'.

    DISCO RULES

    Europeans, DUH.
  13. I'm not talking about purifying the water they drink, silly, I'm talking about having one less G-infected poop occur every time they go after being treated and getting rid of the G. It's a communicable disease, don't we want to minimize that?
  14. If someone is a latent carrier, aren't they potentially contaminating? Am I misunderstanding carriers as a method of spreading Giardia?
  15. Uh, to keep from infecting others, spreading giardia?
  16. Now that is awesome!
  17. Doing a little research on the place, may go there some day. Anyone know of any good resources on trekking/easy climbing in Patagonia? Googling produes a lot of commercial guiding services, not exactly what I am looking for.
  18. Iodine has the additional disadvantage as not having been proven effective in killing Crypto. Here's one of the many studies on that, I know it's not the most current, but I'm lazy and it was the first hit on Google. study
  19. FF, I tried the MIOX this past weekend. We were a party of four with one filter and one MIOX. It was definitely easier and quicker than filtering, but it's a hundred and thirty bucks, and it's battery powered, two major drawbacks. The major advantage over drops is that the MIOX is EPA approved. The Katadyn tablets are as well, but I'll tell you, those tablets leave a serious chlorine taste, and the MIOX does not. I haven't tried the Aqua Mira drops, can someone chime in and comment on the chlorine taste? I know it's not a huge big deal, but I much prefer my pure mountain water taste like pure mountain water.
  20. Tits are really not all that inconvenient. Actually, I can see no downside to having a set of them. Nether are Raven Pros, in the length of 65 CM, for a woman of the 5'9" height. I have one Raven Pro, and it's a good piece of gear.

    burning CDs

I got good results by slowing the burn rate down to 4x.
  24. Ben, Ok, whatever, it's a hard 5.9, so if this is n00bie climbing I guess I would look for something friendlier.

    burning CDs

With different computers, with different programs, with different music CDs, I have had maybe half of all I try to burn come out and the rest, not. Is there a trick to getting less wasted burns? Perhaps a certain brand of blanks, or a certain burn speed that works the best for people?
