  1. yeah, I almost got one at AMH this spring. Looked like a nice tent, until I saw that they made one for Uli Steck to use in the Himalaya that has internal poles a la the Bibler... coming out next spring. choices, choices.
  2. sorry guys. I've been in the field for the last 12 days. Check your PMs and emails.
  3. Head up to the Eliot Glacier on the north side of Mt. Hood, by the Cooper Spur ski area. find some low angle ice to crampon on, then go up on the hillside to climber's left of the glacier to do some self-arrest.
  4. nice shot! from the NF of Buckner? how were the conditions?
  5. thanks for the videos and article! Unfortunately, they all seem to apply to other conditions that I'm experiencing. My pain (which is decreasing on its own a bit) is located between the spine and scapula between T3-T5. I don't have any other complaints (ROM is fine, full strength, etc). I'll try to get in to see somebody soon.
  6. Your Scarpas are fine for trips that start in mid-May or later, if they have Intuition liners. Throw some Forty Below K2 overboots on them and be good to go. Maybe some toe warmers and you'll be all set!
  7. drive to Seattle and try a bunch of boots on. It's the only way that you'll get a fit that you're satisfied with. Depending on the climbing that you're doing (and since you specify 'high altitude'), you should really look at modern, synthetic double boots (baruntse, spantik, and the like) or those with an integrated overboot (kayland 8001, Sportiva Olympus Mons, Millet Everest, etc).
  8. Trad: BD nylon slings (they last longer, are cheaper, and have lower impact force) with Trango lightwire carabiners for the most part Ice: Screamers with Camp Photon biners. a few dyneema slings for extending placements or to go on pins or rock gear. sport: Petzl dogbones with BD keylock biners. Alpine: dyneema (light is right in the alpine) with wiregates (neutrino,oz,photon, etc).
  9. how steep John? if I were to pitch the whole route, how many would it be?
  10. I just got back from an expedition and have been suffering from a burning pain under and below my right shoulder blade since I got back (about 3 weeks). It feels like a sunburn and is also somewhat achy, but there is no rash or surface discoloration. It doesn't hurt when massaged, but is really sensitive to a light touch and clothes moving around on it. I'm thinking it's an overuse injury (too heavy a pack for too long?) or maybe a pinched nerve. Anyone else ever get this? What should I do about it?
  11. what about the north side?
