Climbed around on Children of the Sun and Champagne yesterday. Drove as far as the punchbowl and everything is pretty much in. Cable looks leadable, H2O2, Zenith, Salt and Pepper. If you are a brave soul, you could possibly cross the lake on the ice and do some of the routes that are in pretty fat on the West side of the lake. Temps are looking favorable for this weekend as well. :tup:

More nice stuff ripe for the picking. I'm wondering how many gullies and coulee's get ice where there's no road or easy access out there in the desert. Maybe Scurlock could do a few reconaissance flights :tup:

I heard rumors that he's a bit lost as what to do now that he did the Rupal Face. Steve is definately high on the list of all time greatest all arounders and deserves mucho props, but I still think that there are/were others greater.

Messner would skunk House hands down...how many 8000er's has House solo'd without oxygen??

I think the definition of a "Climber" is moot. My reasoning behind this would be that most of the true greats from Messner to Bonatti all started rock climbing as teens for the most part, and graduated into alpine mountaineering. Maybe I should have stated, best all arounder. Whatever, some good names have popped up so far. Maybe...

climbers. Yeah, yeah, the one having the most fun, right Seriously though, there's been a lot of pretty serious mountaineers and rock climbers coming straight outta of da PNW, wurd . To name a few: Whittaker's, Wickwire, Viesturs, Simonson, House, V. Anderson, a few that post here even. But what about other countries that most of us Americans never hear about. The Russians had a pretty serious investment in their climbers before the "Iron Curtain" fell and their country was split up. Hell, Boukoreev used to live in Seattle for a while and he wrote about alot of his old comrades whom he trained with in the Russian programs that had to kick the habit and find "real" work. So, back to my question, what country has produced the strongest climbers to date and is it a simple matter of geographic position (big mountains nearby) or a genetic fluke that might cause it?

We usually end up taking someone's kidney's and or liver and leave them in a bath tub full of ice. You would fit in nicely OrganDonor, you should stop by for some fun. Seriously, we're all a pretty mellow bunch of dirt bags who love to talk about everything from climbing to politics. I usually sit over next to the people talking about climbing though.

Here's one link, but it doesn't provide much information other than it's not possible: linky Most people I've seen with them modified have used some sort of pipe hangar/rope thimble modified via a hacksaw and hammer. Apparently, BD decided not to make a fang or strike attachment since they would have had to modify the design of the tool

One good tip that I picked up on making the actual holes, is to offset them vertically. Since the ice fractures horizontally, I suppose it would just makes sense to do this, but I had never heard of it until this season.
