White man's burden Bill, if you don't feel it, I can't help you.
-
It seems that Colin's done it, maybe someone else, though I couldn't find a TR. Steve Mascioli & Bill Pilling way back in the day.

Ah Keenan, do you have Mommy issues? Do you know how old that woman is?

I'm sorry, but nothing will end the anger of ignorant Americans.

Seems quasi-relevant, and Porter might even like it [video:youtube]

that's the gods truth believe me.. You've done more to unveil those lines than anyone I know, thanks!

Aren't you an attorney? Must have changed fields, but I do like the idea of a lawyer's union. "Hell No, We Won't...err....entertain offers from the undersigned party of said regarding the subordination of clauses 4.6 and 9.2b.." You're on a roll Jay, but this one made me laugh out loud.

Rob's right, the washington law is about charter schools, rather than vouchers and private schools. They'll still be public, and cannot be religious, so Jesus is SOL with the current initiative. The teachers union is opposed to the charter schools approach, but I find the idea of being able to more freely innovate with a system that doesn't perform very well under the status quo to be pretty appealing. Why is it so hard to get rid of crappy teachers? When its time for layoffs, why do we get rid of the young teachers with a fire for their occupation and keep the ossified louts all students try to avoid? Geoffry Canada's schools in Harlem are charter schools, and that's not a bad experiment at all. I think we need a model that will allow for more innovation. I'm inclined to vote yes on the current initiative. While the Republicans are no doubt behind it as an end run on unions, I still think trying different options is worth the effort.

I'll have been married to my Faith for 25 years this August, she's the love of my life. As far as religion goes, mark me down in the column with Tvash and Rob. I don't know about you, but I was born right the first time.

Good advice here Kyle (note that Oleg is joking). The avalanche/weather awareness is essential, casual routes in the wrong conditions are deadly. I know someone whose partner died in an avalanche on Unicorn in the tatoosh range, and odds are most people on this board are only one or two degrees of separation away from someone who has died on Hood. GGK's advice about early season/low snow is pretty spot on, especially if you're looking for ice/mixed as opposed to snow.

Huh, I didn't think that was coffee doing the talking...

Just to get this thread back on topic: "Perhaps there is a God after all."

What are you, 14 years old? Your use of "quotes" implies that. You know, as well as I do, that Bill Coe posts using his own name, unlike other internet trolls who want to hide behind an assumed name to avoid owning their opinions and behavior, or for fear that someone might seek them out and assault them for it. And before you go off on my "name", I suggest you test it by making out a check to that name for $100 and sending it to me. I guarantee you it will come back endorsed that way and deposited at my bank. The problem isn't your message, its your delivery. You're welcome to take that with you, it won't be missed or mourned, though I'm sure some will miss the hilarity your caricature provides. I know there is so much more to you than this splinter personality "raindawg", it's beyond me why you choose to use this bitter and brittle shitheel of a personality on this site. By the way, if you think mocking entire groups of people for doing things you don't agree with is superior to calling out individuals on their bullshit, then that's just another thing we'll never agree on. The rain's back, looks like its spray season again.

[TR] Johannesburg Mountain - NE Buttress 10/7/2012
Off_White replied to Tom_Sjolseth's topic in North Cascades
You can skip that pitch by rapping into the gully to the right. I don't know if you'd have found any snow still in it at this time of year, but I don't think the rock in there was particularly chossy, and you still come out right at the snow arete. Seems like someone had a TR this year where they went that way. -
So, did you find out if he wrote any books, and then made a parody of them, and then mocked him for going on book-signing lecture tours? That would have been some gratuitous fun!! Yee haw! You're a smart guy, you should have been able to understand I was mocking your opinion of bouldering and climbing gyms, and there was nothing gratuitous about it. For one who likes to make fun of other people, your skin is inordinately thin.

I recently uttered that exact phrase while walking down the street at Burning Man. Some guy on a bike came along and smacked the back of my elbow with his hand really hard, which both startled me and hurt quite a bit. I reacted much too slowly to kick his back tire, but not 100' ahead of me he hit a patch of sand at an intersection, tried to turn, and went down face first into the ground. I automatically blurted "Maybe there is a god after all" thereby cracking up the complete stranger walking next to me. It took the faceplanted dickwhistle a good 15 seconds to start to move, and I proved my superiority by not running up and kicking him in the ribs.

Just to be clear, this is a Metolius rap hanger: Its an extra thick hanger with eased edges, and you rap by just running your rope through the hangers. Its not a super easy pull, but it doesn't damage your rope. You mention rap rings, and these hangers don't use them. Are you thinking of the Fixe hangers with rings: That's not what Gspotter was describing as being on the route, he means the first hangers I've shown. Bonus points for the wolverine. I've always wanted to see one of those in the wild, preferably running away as it was for you.

[TR] Banks Lake - Various 10/10/2012
Off_White replied to mountainsloth's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
That's "The Men of Banks Lake" put up by Steve Grossman with me holding the other end of the rope in the midst of the Memorial Day fishing derby sometime in the early 90's. The name was inspired by the thought of all those hardy fishermen in their fast bass boats and the resulting Playgirl photoshoot. After the tricky face bit there's just the coolest smooth quartz lined tips crack. I think we called it 11a. That same weekend we ran into Bryan Burdo cleaning and bolting something up on Highway Rock, and we all speculated that it was perhaps the first time two unrelated climbing parties had ever run into each other at Banks Lake. Awesome place, thanks for the great TR. -
Well, with dry days forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday I haven't given up hope for another day. Gotta start earlier with the encroaching darkness though, so skip out on work after lunch. Its been my pleasure hosting folks out here, I like it when people love this place as much as I do, and its a delight to climb with all you folks.

You should get off the silly fiberglass board and send us some photos from Eagle Peak or The Wedge this winter.

I think the banking industry is counting on Romney "reinstating the graft", which is why Goldman Sachs employees have given him 1.8 million dollars compared to $136,000 to Obama. Last time election it was the other way around, but Obama didn't give them what they wanted and had the temerity to blame the industry for driving us all into the ditch.

Hey, and don't forget that Ugly Canadian syndrome, you know, they turn right without signalling... I think its funny the way the tone runs in this thread that started with a question compared to Blake's current thread of the same format.

As a Caucasian rural dweller, I feel qualified to respond for my demographic and say, "fuck all you people." [video:youtube]

You're correct, epoxy is not for lead bolting. For the OP, what's leading you to use glue in bolts rather than good stainless hardware? I've done a little bit of it on a slab that runs with water 9 months out of the year, and its a messy process that leaves hardware that cannot be easily replaced. Nothing lasts forever.
