That looks like a good punishment for racist actors that drive drunk. The video could have been improved with some gratuitious titties to make the R rating more appealing.

I think it's his fourth or fifth birthday this year. He keeps this up, he's gonna wind up as old as me in no time flat.

When I've been up there late season we camped at a large boulder directly under Silver Star. Nice site, with a fixed copperhead in the boulder to snaffleproof your food. Water was a five minute walk upslope, a small runnel that came down the toe of the buttress making a tiny pool. A water filter was essential to be able to pump out of the small source. I've seen this source twice in late august/september, so hopefully it's reasonably dependable. There's usually a remnant snowpatch around there too. Downside is that the approach to Clean Break will be longer in the morning. Green arrow is water source, red arrows are the two starts to Stellar Eclipse, with the lower one being the optional 5.11a face pitch. Aerial view, showing the trail to Burgundy Col in upper right and what I think was the great camp boulder

Holy shit, and I thought that Logan outing a couple years ago was impressive. I can't wait for the story. -

Always a treat to hear from the Peelanders. At least they're not talking smack about Tenino.

Damn Dawg, you wouldn't climb that hard for $100, or whatever that offer was that Kurt made. I'd be glad to offer shrill exhortations if that was what it took. -
I spotted one in the East Ridge of Forbidden this summer. Sudden storm inspired us to bail at the end of pitch three, base of that leaning pointy tower. From below enroute to the NE Ledges I saw a tiny, as in grapefruit size, hole through the ridge maybe 30' down from the ridgeline and 70 feet left of our rap point. No pic, though I bet a clever NE Ledge descender could spot it.

Isn't that part of the theory behind unreported routes, so others can have the FA experience too? Of course, that tends to fall apart when someone else bolts the snot out of your unreported FA, but it's less of an issue with a backcountry route than some nondescript Icicle quasi roadside bump. Sounds like you guys had a good adventure.

Not to change the topic, but ya'll oughta check out The Weakerthans Video for "Psalm for the Elks Lodge Last Call" "Plea from a Cat Named Virtue" mp3 file

She said: It takes. It takes one. It takes one to. It takes one to know one. Damn, I loved that album all back in the day.

Landowners who allow recreational use of their land are exempt from liability for injuries, provided there is no charge for the usage. This law has been amended to explicitly include climbing thanks to the work of Andy Fitz and others. That's a real disincentive to open a kiosk and charge a fee.

Seems I've seen a study that determined that a significant percentage of supposed waterborne backcountry ailments were in fact due to poor hand sanitation on the part of the infected person.

Hah, I was wondering if he knew anything about limitations.

Trog, I haven't checked out the colored chalk in awhile, but my recollection is that it was rather slippery and counterproductive. For me, chalk use is at least as much nervous tic and calming ritual as it is functional, and having a chalk ball rather than loose chalk helps cut down on the impact. I think I'll be paying closer attention to what I'm doing the next few times out, sort out the "need" versus "want" balance.

The sixth pitch still has three or four 1/4" button heads, it'd be a great public service if someone who knew what they were doing replaced those. I'd have done it if I had known to bring a hand drill (it's in a wilderness area). All the other gear on the route is great.

Nah, I'm sure it would be a bARGHnacle, which would happily live on your peg leg as long as you kept it submerged in salt water for part of each day.

Still good, c'mon out. Faint hearts ne'er won the prize.

I think it's going to be good, just a couple light showers last night and this morning, the rock is still dry.
