  5. The worst chossiest rock I have ever climbed has been granite. eg: Crap Crags and N.N.Gully on the Chief, Mt. Reh in Anderson River group, upper part of Peruvian Flake in Yosemite. Weetbix schist in New Zealand was also gross, but at least you could kick steps into it.
  6. the steepest parts of the graph correspond to periods of time when you were looking for a date.
  7. me! I can be there around 9:30am
  8. I read another access society bulletin about the bird closure, which states that while the routes between Black Dyke and Freeway are closed from 80m height up to Bellygood, Black Dyke and Freeway are themselves not closed.
  9. I have been to Index 3 times. I have climbed GNS 7 times
  10. it ain't the shoe it's the climber. but don't get them too tight - unscrunched toes. Fit is more important than brand IMO.
  11. ya but did you notice that zlib compression is finally ENABLED!!! ... Fuckin 'A boyee!!!!! ... take that gumnutsybian!
  12. is there something similar to a Trango S that still has a front welt for clippy crampons?
  13. I am pretty sure that the closed area only extends up to Bellygood. The nest is in the Western Dihedrals which is below and south of UBD. The wording of the closure is a little ambiguous but I interpret it to mean the vertical extent of the closure is from 100m above the ground up to Bellygood.
  14. I have heard it described as "a serious sort of fun". Some creaky/loose flakes and healthy runouts. The top pitches of Millenium Falcon are another option in that neighbourhood.
  15. 12.5" and I'm just a girl
  16. dummies Completely Obnox...... etc.
  17. her height doesn't matter so much as the length of her back. 5'5" is not freakishly short for pack sizing unless she's all legs and no torso.
  18. why how big are yours? c'mon Bulging Biceps Chestbeat thread!! ....you must feel inadequate or something to bring it up
  19. resize your pictures jerky bolder boy
  20. we had this debate already. the smart people said yes-still-an-onsight and the dumb people said no-ground-is-off-limits.
  21. please don't use the TR: Trip Report feature for trips you have not yet done. Just make your thread a regular post using the Post button. thnx - the management
  22. I think when they started the lower there WAS a 2nd rope attached, and that knot was expected to reach the belayer at about the same distance as the climber would reach the intermediate station on Exasperator (this jibes with the statement that he fell 25m). However with the new party wanting their rope strung up the original 2 ropes were untied and before the new rope was tied on the rope end ran through the device. The original lowering plan was fine - the climber could have temporarily anchored to a bolted station while the knot was passed, but changing the plan on the fly to accomodated the new party resulted in some serious mistakes. The coroner's comments about a social atmosphere leading to a lack of attention is the most important lesson in my opinion.
  23. Rodchester sort of made the point, but I will re-iterate it. One of the main advantages of Dryloft is that it protects your bag fill from spills inside the tent - cooking, drinking, drips etc. This can make a big difference on a long trip with lots of tent-living.
  24. does seamseal waterproofing goop stick to this SilNylon stuff? Is there a tricky way of sewing a seam that will make it as watertight as possible?
  25. he's no
