  1. "If you get good weather and site your high camp correctly, you can do the whole thing in one push from base camp. You need to spend some time acclimatizing first." Well yeah...that's how I do the tooth. 8000m peaks: I think it depends what you mean by guiding. A guy can be hired to hold your hand, take care of the logistics and tell you where to stand, where to walk and where to shit. But there aren't too many people in this world who can drag your ass down from above 8000m - and the ones who can aren't "guiding". [ 01-20-2002: Message edited by: Figger Eight ]
  2. TCC offers an EMT course, but like the guys above said, it doesn't offer anything more for a climber than a Wilderness First Responder does. In fact a WFR is more practical for almost all people anyways. One step down from the WFR course is the WFA (wilderness first aid). The MOFA course is a training provided by the Mountaineers - and like all their other courses - is most likely taught by someone who took the class the previous year, rather than someone who is qualified.
  3. Alright Larson, you better not bail. Imagine how much more you would suck if you did.
  4. I agree with the above: success doesn't mean selling out. Arcteryx decided to join another successful outdoor company, not one that makes cheap backpacks and bras (Vanity Fair). Getting bigger doesn't necessarily mean quality will be compromised - Patagonia, Marmot and Mtn. Hardwear are examples of that. I encourage you to take a look at what each company stands for and how they prove it. I'm involved with some non-profits who are at the receiving end of Patagonia and Mtn. Hardwear's generosity. Look at Patagonia's environmental stand and compare it to TNF's sponsorship of a gas guzzler. True - it's all as expensive as shit...but if you pay retail for something, you're just too plain lazy to look for deals.
