Joe Puryear: First Ascents in China/Tibet. 3/13
Figger_Eight replied to featheredfriends's topic in Events Forum
A huge thanks go out to everyone who showed up for a great show! All in all we raised over $3,000 for the fund, and it should be pretty close to being fully funded. -
I gots wide duck feet also, and am currently wearing Sportiva and Scarpa. Garmonts are generally on the wide side with the exception of the Towers which, for some reason, are narrower than any other boot out there. Kaylands run wider yet, but have a touch more volume. Boreal's are wide but have a touch less volume. The Vasque Ice 9000's have a wide midfoot, but seem to taper at the toes. They stopped making them, and I'm not sure if the new ones are the same way.

I've thought about using those special shoes I have with the mirrors on top of the toes...but I don't want them to break.

Polarized Lenses - I'm in the camp that don't like them for the snow. I need all the information I can get so I don't crash into a tree.

The important thing is to have coverage all around the eye. Well fitting sport wraps do that just find. Most all good sunglasses block UV rays, but there are just a few that have a visible light transmission percentage in the single digits that I know of: Oakley Black Iridium, Smith has a special order Flash Blue lens and Julbo has one as well. If you're in the snow on a bright sunny day, you might need a lens that dark.

Skied two seasons and in great condition. Comes with Ascension skins!

Those or the Shuksans would be a good choice. 174 should be just fine for you.

BD Carbon Fiber Flicklock FTW!

what is your favorite all around tele ski
Figger_Eight replied to shapp's topic in the *freshiezone*
I have TM-X's and last year's Verdict right now. My next ski will be the RT86's. Those are my favorite skis out of the new line-up this year. If you like wood core skis check out the G3 Barons / Reverends or the K2 Work Stinx. -
Important - Beacon/battery incompatibilties!
Figger_Eight replied to snoboy's topic in the *freshiezone*
It's my understanding that the way Nickel Metal Hydride batteries work isn't compatible with the "battery life remaining" feature on beacons. It will show high, until the very end of it's life when it will just die. Someone else might have better info though. -

Just got pinged. She was found in good condition and is being evacuated. Thanks for everyone's help! - Eddie -
Hey all - I'm posting on behalf of the Snohomish County sheriff's office. Mary Hyde-Wingfield has been missing since Sunday. She was last known to be en route to either the Sulfur Creek or Buck Creek trailhead. There was a call from her cell phone on Saturday afternoon, but she failed to pick up a friend from the airport and hasn't shown up to work. She is a 31 yr old white female with short brown hair and brown eyes. 5'2" and 120 lbs. Also missing is her car: A white 1997 Toyota Corolla: 432-UHK If you have any information to share, please call the Snohomish County Sheriff's office: (425) 388-3523 - Eddie Please keep this one spray free

Maybe try the Bridge Creek group site (where Rockfest is held)?

I've been stopped on the Cleaver by a ranger who asked for my permit, and just like you, had walked up there without registering because it was closed. He radioed down to the station, registered my partner and I on the spot and asked that we pay when we get down. They're super cool guys and they have a tough job, so you gotta respect what they're doing. To answer you're question: I've seen at least one of them up there whenever I've been on the DC route.

Lightweight boot alternatives for alpine?
Figger_Eight replied to jared_j's topic in The Gear Critic
I had the original Trango's (green, all leather) and loved 'em. I'll sacrifice a little big of weight to have at least the bottom 2/3rds of the boot made out of leather. I have the Scarpa Triolets now and love them. The Towers are a similar boot, but are too narrow for my feet. Another good boot to look at is the Kayland Apex. -
Thanks for the replies, but I'm looking for cracks that'll take armbars, chickenwings, kneebars, blabbedy blah. I guess I can poke around in the rocks off the road but I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas.
-
Hey Ya'lls, I'm wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head of any good off-widths in 11worth with easy access. Thanks in advance! - Eddie

I guess it depends on what you're doing with it. I wouldn't recommend it for expedition use, but for ski touring and mellow stuff it may work when used with additional layers.

Someone should teach mustache guy how to use the timer on his camera. -
This was very sad news.

Took advantage of the break in the weather last week to go for mellow ski tour. Skinning was about as good as it gets Turned around a few hundred feet from the top when it turned to boiler plate. Perfect spring conditions on the way down.

All's I gots to say is CG consistently has the hottest girls in his booth at the SLC show every year. And he's actually kind've a nice guy.
